I Have a IBM thinkpad t40 I got a new battery and I can't get the power to come on

first will the pc turn on with no battery and the plug in both the wall and the laptop ?

if yes then try battery again being sure the contacts are clear and the packing/ship[ping cover is off the battery contact area.. also make sure the shipping cover has not become jammed in the laptops contacts inside the battery compartment...

if NO then u may have a defective power supply inside your laptop - see a repair center.

My IBM Thinkpad T40 2723 will not boot up

The first thing to try is to unplug the power adapter from the computer then remove the battery. Then press down the power on button for a second or two. Put the battery back in and reconnect the power adapter and see if it boots.

New laptop battery not charging

Normally, charging cicuit of the laptop which is part of the Motherboard has the problem. This happens if you keep the old battery installed even if the battery is already futile. Best solution is to bring it to the nearest shop.

Hope this helps.

T40 Monitor Display

I assume you are running window XP or vista?
Go to
Start>Control Panel and look for Power Saver, or Screensaver options. There will be settings there for determining how long, if at all, your display will take to turn off.

T40 slows down when switching from ac to the battery

You need to access the bios by pressing F1 when booting up. Go to the power management tab and set to max performance.
Likewise, in windows, control panel, power options, set to maximum performance.
That should do it, although don't expect to much from your battery in terms of life expectancy.
Good luck.
