Question about Heating & Cooling
This sounds like you have a faulty 'thermocouple' (this is a safety device which the pilot heats up).
I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself, as you may invalidate your house insurance should something happen.
Ideally you should get a gas engineer in to change it, i know it's more expensive but at least you get piece of mind and a guarantee.
The part will cost no more than £25
