Hello, Where can I purchase and or download the schematic/service manual for a Yamaha PSR-240?

Yamaha has the Owner's Manual for the PSR-290 portable keyboard on the product page: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalkeyboards/portable_keyboards/psr-290/ . Click on the Support tab and look the Downloads heading. If you want the English version of the manual, just click on the second link. If you would like the manual in another language, click on the More Downloads link.

It is shop replaceable. I have heard this is NOT an uncommon problem. You can get the parts through Yamaha America in California. Here is your service manual:

I believe they are in California. Most of their LCD's the whole thing is an assembly so you may not be able to get the backlight separately. Not sure what type you have but the PSR640 has a CCL type flourescent. The usual failure is in the inverter that drives it, however both the lamp and the inverter often go bad. The CCL lamps are availablle from different sources but you need to check the inverter as it may be the cause of no backlight.
