How long do you actually have to wait before using a portable air conditioner that has been lying on its side during shipping? I know the 24 hours stated, is quoted by the companies legal department to cover it's #$%

Thank you very much for the sound advice. I had a good feeling I was close in the neighborhood of your times but was never really sure. This has been bugging me for years, even the umpteen times I helped a buddy move a refrigerator and when forced to lay it down someone would always argue that you can’t do that.

    Thanks again!!

Usually, if you wait at least two hours, any oil that is going to return to the compressor will be there. To get the rest of the oil back, you actually need to run it, just make sure that you have a good load on the compressor for about an hour, don't run it i a cold room. You should be fine. If when you first start it, the compressor only hums or buzzes, not actually run, It may be locked up, turn off right away and wait about 4 hours but I doubt this will happen. Good luck and let me know what happens.

We want to take this portable floor model to a vacation home. Can you transport them lying on their sides, or do they need to remain upright? Help!

I assume this is a freon based unit being it has a window exhaust kit(I just looked it up). The freon tank contains some oil to lubricate the compressor. I would not suggest lying it on it's side, but if you have no other option...at least let it stand upright for a while before operating it...and maybe only run it for 20 seconds...then let it sit again.....that should allow the oil to get back to where it's supposed to be.

I have 2 Amcor portable AC's and the plastic

I have found that getting parts from Amcor units is like looking for a needle in a haystack. However, other portable AC units, like Goldstar, LG, Comfort Aire, Kenmore and others, use the same type castor wheel.

I have included a link to Appliance Factory Parts. They stock and handle thousands of parts, with good pricing and fast shipping. Check them out, as they may be able to help you.

Hope this helps you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I purchased a Commercial Cool Haier portable rolling air conditioner CPN11XCJ from QVC and the compressor noise is aweful. I was told this was a shipping damage issue. The unit works fine but the noise....

Check the compressor. It probably fell out of it's mounting bracket during shipping. Maybe turned upside down or something. Make sure the compressor is sitting solid and it's rubber feet are in place. If you continue to use this unit with a loose compressor, you may damage or break a refrigerant line.

Can i start my air conditioner

You need to wait for at least 24 hours before you try and start it. Even then I cant say the compressor may not burn out. Compressors should never be on there sides, I would wait as long as you can stand the heat.

Failed air conditioner

Ohio is the only licensed place for me it would cost as much to ship it there and back + repair as it would to buy a new one, I have the same problem they are actually very terrible the portable ones with no bucket, we bought several of them for our office buildings, and all of them lost their charge, and ran out of freon after a year. So I am in search of a local person who will just refill them and hopefully recharge them so that they will work again, I wouldn't recommend buying one of these inless you have no window like myself and are forced to.

Plug gets red hot on A.C. after 1/2 hour running.

Local hardware store would have replacement plugs and yes that would help the situation out. But the problem may lie inside the actual outlet also. So you may want to investigate the problem alittle more unless you have already done so

Delonghi Pinguin Air Conditioner

I sat on hold with Delonghi for about 25 minutes before I talked to someone this morning.  Expect a long wait before you get helped.

For this specific problem (unit works, just doesn't blow cold air), the unit MUST be sent to an authorized repair facility.  No repair facilities in Texas.  The closest one to Texas is:

All-Brands Appliance 5008 W. Linebaugh Ave. Suite #8 Tampa, Florida 33624 813-908-2002
Delonghi said they will cover mine under full warranty up to 13-months.  No RMA needed, just a photo copy of the purchase receipt for the unit. Outbound shipping is something not covered by Delonghi, but they will pay for parts, labor, and return shipping.
All-Brands said they don't have any specific requirements for packing, other than making sure the casters on the bottom of the unit are well-protected.  It is common for them to break during shipping.  They recommended, though, that if you have someplace nearby that does professional packing, like a UPS Store, to take it there.  It's not a requirement, just a recommendation.
Along with the unit send a copy (not the original) of your purchase receipt, your name and telephone number, and the address to where the unit will be returned.  Also, include a detailed description of the problem with your unit.
I REALLY hope this information helps someone!
