Question about Refrigerators

Whirlpool GS6SHAXLL03 refrigerator won't cool down

Our refrigerator won't get cold.  I've checked the airflow from the freezer and found ice blocking the vent to the fridge.  I cleared out the ice but the problem persists.

Freezer is working but refrigerator will not get colder than 50 degrees

First out make sure you understand how refridgerators work. The freezer actually cools the refridgerator by means of the fan in the freezer. Check for ice build up on the freezer wall, if you have that you have a defrost problem, and should call a tech unless your handy them just use your model number, go to and enter the information and you will get an illistrated parts breakdown. Defrost timer, bi-metal or defrost thermostat and defrost heaters are the three parts of that system. Also now you could have something blocking airflow, a faulty cold control thermostat, or the fan in the freezer just may not be running at all.

Whirlpool fridge model # GS6SHAXLL03 will not is the layout for the parts for your unit. I think you are talking about the bin button (Item 19 on the layout) but you might want to check.

The part is available through the link I gave you just by clicking on Button Bin in the explanation column.

It is a little of a pain to replace and if you decide to attempt the replacement yourself, I would suggest you take digital photos of each step of disassembly so that you can refer back to it when you go back to assemble it.

Whirlpool Side by Side: Freezer freezes refrig doesn't cool.

check for a blockage. There is only one cooling section, divided by airflow for freezer / fridge.
Perhaps something sticky is in the vents, or the freezer section has poor airflow, resulting in ice formation.
Unplug the unit for several hours, clean out vents, and make sure freezer section has good airflow from the vents.

Freezer works, fridge doesn't cool

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.

Zanussi fridge freezer

sounds like the freezer evaporator has iced /frosted up and you will not get cold airflow through it. try a 24 hour defrost to clear it. then check fridge cooling.
