Is the Lamp ok? Go to the rear of the set and turn on the set with your remote while looking at the vent slats. If you can see a bright light through the vent slats then your Lamp is working. If the lamp is on and you have sound and no pix, then the Digital bd is in what we call "Video Mute" and will have to be replaced. Also make sure that the Lamp Door is installed and the screws are tight.

Mine went out within a year of replacing the color wheel. Replace the Lamp. It will fix your problem. The only other issue would be a failing chipboard. Forget doing a tech replacement. You can DIY very easily and only pay for the lamp itself. The lamp average cost is between $55-115. Good range is $73. check amazon. There is a company I ordered mine from located in San Diego. Company is really great:

Yep, whenever the TV keeps going black or even turning itself off, it's time to replace the lamp! I have gone through 4 lamps in 4.5 years. So expect it annually... Oh, and at 4.5 years old (out of warranty of course) I had to have the whole "brain" replaced which set me back $350-400. The Circuit City warranty maintenance tech gave everyone his phone#, before they went out of business. My tech replaces lamps for $150.

Do the ballast first. That should get the picture back. The main board controls everything else.

Samsung DLP 72" HL72A650C1F keeps turning off amd on

Hi,
Did you buy the original lamp?
If the problem is related to the lamp door switch, you will get a different error instead of lamp LED.

Do you hear the color wheel spinning?
Again, if it's a color wheel problem the error will be different!
My good guess is the lamp but, it could be the ballast or both.

Best of luck

If the capacitor on the ballast was puffed up or blown up you have to replace the lamp, ballast & SMPS at the same time. But if the ballast is not trying to fire the lamp it sounds like the color wheel is not coming up to speed. If this is the case, the set will not turn on.

It looks like you have a weak ballast issue this is a common problem with DLP sets, this ballast board starts to wear out with time and use the lamp needs at least 150w 12vdc to turn on and if your ballast board only feeds it 120w or 130w it will not be able to turn on another thing that this ballast due is gather enough energy ( 150w ) to turn on the lamp then get weak again( 120w ) and can't maintain the lamp on and turn back off
