Question about HP Photosmart A310 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Paper is jammed right inside my Photosmart A310 (not under warranty.) Cannot get into it at all. Have taken off 4 star-key screws from the bottom but can find no way to take anything apart. Got the paper-jam email from HP but not helping. It says: ' Step three: Clear the jam from the back of the printer 1.Remove the paper from the input tray. 2.Then gently pull down the input tray to open it fully to a horizontal position. 3.Gently pull the jammed paper to remove it from the back of the printer.' BUT you cannot 'pull down the input tray to open it fully to a horizontal position', I am sure it would break, it simply will not move more than a quarter of the way.

BUT having taken out those four screws I CANNOT take it apart, indeed I do not at all think I'm doing things the right way. If I could actually take apart the mahine I could solve the problem but I cannot! I have to say at this stage I'm completely stumped.
Guess I will try the manila folder idea but I don't hold out strong hope - but I will try it.

Regretfully there is simply no way one can pass through a part of a manila folder because the way is mechanically blocked by the printer. The printer automatically blocks any further card from passing through because it is registering a fault and will not remove the obstructing lever or whatever until the fault is cleared. Obviously I have also tried with the printer off and with the printer entirely disconnected from both battery and power, but it makes no difference.I am sorry but since HP's own instructions cannot help ('gently pull down the input tray to open it fully to a horizontal position'), and since it is apparently impossible to get hold of any schematic of the printer to enable me to take it apart, then obviously I should pull the plug. The damned thing is only worth about $10 on eBay ($200 originally) so we really shouldn't waste any more time on it.
    Thanks anyway.

He tried to give a solution, but I don't think he has worked on this actual printer so couldn't be specific. What I was looking for was some instruction of how to get INTO the printer, but no luck.

Hello there, sorry to hear about your problem. I have cleared similar jams by taking a manilla folder, cutting it in half, and feeding it through the paper rollers until it pushed the paper out. Otherwise you will have to take it apart entirely. It sounds like you are doing everything correctly as far as taking it apart goes.

Give the manilla folder trick a try!

Hope this helps

Good luck, I know it may sound weird but it has worked for me more times than I can count. I guess I would have to see the printer in person to figure out why it isnt coming apart. That will be very hard to help with remotely.

So sorry about that, keep at it!

Hello, I have a HP 3210 Photosmart All-in-One printer. It will copy and print a test page with no problem. It will not print from the computer command. The photo carrier slides freely in and out as if it...

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Sir, The problem you are telling is surely be the problem of Paper Jam actually their may be small bit paper jam in side the printerThere are some "micro-sensors" that detect a paper jam. There will be tiny piece of paper, or a lump of dust, inside those sensors, thus "tripping" the sensor and saying you paper jam.
To solve it
Open printer cover and check to make sure no paper or foreign objects obstructing the printer feeder

If you become sure that now really there is no paper, dust or foreign objects then
Turn the printer off, and disconnect the AC power-cable. Open the printer cover & now give the printer a "blow-job" by compressed air.It will clear the printer jam error and your problem will be solved.
I hope you have clear picture in your mind, Don't hesitate to let me know if you have some confusion
Sir, Your Rating as Five Stars for this solution and Words of appreciation as Feedback for me will be really esteemed
Thank You for taking my service

Paper Jam at where the paper would exit.

You have to remove the fuser.

you need to remove the fuser in this order:

the drum unit
the left panel holding the glass
the glass

where the scanner is there is a black thin guide holding the ribbon cable...take that off.

the display panel
bottom left side panel
bottom read side panel
bottom top panel

flip over the black milar cover over the power supply.

disconect the 3 cables

move the platern about half way and you will see the holes on top of the platen aligned to the bottom so to get to the 3 screws holding the fuser unit.

undo the screws with a long star screw driver and slowly wigle the fuser out.

to put it back you do everything in the opposite order.

Good luck

I keep getting a paper jam

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

If the problem is not solved the printer would need to be taken apart and cleaned, there maybe some paper inside or something else that is not supposed to get in there.

I would recommend sending it to a repairer in that case, or contact your dealer or hp for warranty repair. This may not be covered by warranty, check with your dealer or hp.

HP PhotoSmart C4385 Jams....with or without paper.

see what you gotta understand is that right next to the rollers that pick up the paper are paper sensors so if those sensors have been damaged take a cotton swab dip it in water.
clean the rollers where the paper is taken in from and also clean the carriage rod along which ur cartridges move(metallic rod).
now if this still does not work call up hp at 1800-474-6836 and if ur printer shows out of warranty in hp's records dont worry ask the customer representative to go ahead and tell you the upgrade options and go in for either the photosmart 7280,photosmart 6380 or the photosmart 8180. You will get it at a 50% discounted rate. Its called a refurbished printer but the actual scenario is that if wallmart purchases 100 printers and realises they needed 99 they send one back to hp and then our factory test it before sending it out to the customer but it has never been used before.
trust me this is the best option.I work for HP.
call in and hope you get me on the call.If the printer is in warranty then hp will try a couple of troubleshooting steps and if they dont work then they will replace the printer free of cost.

How to take apart the diswasher to clean it

This is a 5 step process.
1 Remove bottom basket. Remove top basket (Pop off 'keepers' at the ends of the slidding shelf supports).
2. Remove bottom washing arm. Unscrew (Gently but firmly) the centre post. Lift arm assembly out.
3. Remove overhear conduit. There is one screw at the back and one at the top (Philips #2 bit). Rotate the whole assembly 45 deg right (Clockwise) and lift off of the centre post. It can be taken apart to clean.
4.Remove centre post (Pull straight up). Remove 4 screws (Star T-20 bit). Lift the whole plastic assembly out. Pop off the screen (Flat blade screwdriver around the edge) and clean.
5. Remove cap over cutter/chopper. There is a single screw at the front left (Under center assembly just removed). Remove screw (Star T-15 bit) and cap (Needs some wiggling to free it up). Remove cutter & filter. It is on a spring loaded pin. Pull the cutter blade foreward and then the filter disc up. Clean thoroughly. Run a 'quick rinse' cycle with everything out, to clean the inside.
