It is impossible to take fan apart, but I have found a solution. You will need a can of WD-40, a rag, and a flashlight. Inside the fan is a tall drum that rotates, the rattle is coming from the top center of this drum, where it attaches to fan motor. Turn fan off, and put the rag on the back of the fan to avoid spraying out the other side. Use flashlight to locate the top center of the drum inside the fan, and spray with WD-40. Step back before turning fan on, or you will get oil in your face. It will take a few tries but the fan will be quiet when you hit the sweet spot.

Most fans have a sticker located on the middle of fan where the rotating impeller attaches to the fans frame. If you remove this sticker, you'll see a seal and a bearing. Put a *TINY* drop of oil on the bearing, and replace the sticker. Spin the blades to see if it gets noticeably smoother. If the sticker won't re-apply, tear it off and replace it with a hand-cut piece of clear or electrical tape that's roughly the same size and shape. I've used this method to fix fans that were almost completely seized up. For fans that are just noisy, it works almost every time. Note that if this is the CPU fan, the tape and the bearing will be on the underside of the CPU, mandating it's removal from the heat sink. If it's the Power supply fan, you will have to remove the power supply from the computer, remove the case, and undo the four screws that *usually* hold the fan to the back of the power supply's case. Hope this helps....

its likely the fan. if it sounds like metal clicking or grinding, its the fan bearings.

it could also simply be the plastic fan case rattling/rubbing against another hood accessory.

HELLO, The Problem I'm having is My Honda EX 800 Generator, The Problem is, it's loud and also has a loud rattle, ANY IDEA'S ????

When it comes to gas generators "quiet" is a relative term, the EX 800 is quiet relative to other gas generators yes, but is not quiet by any means. If you hear a rattle check the panels for a loose sections which you should be able to hand tighten with a screwdriver from either end of the unit.

STOP! Before you take anything apart, turn fan upside down and find the large plastic "screw"(cord passes through it)that secures the fan to the pedestal. Is same color as unit. Loosen it and see if squeaking stops. Worked for me!

Mine was driving me nuts and I was prepared to return it to store.

The cord has a fuse at the plug. Check the fuse it could be blown. To access the fuse there is a slide open door that is about 1" x 1/4" on either top or bottom of the actual plug.

I've learned to just find & buy a NEW MOTOR.

But a new FAN... Outrageous!

Loud noises from Lasko fan motor?

The problem most likely lies within the fan motor of your Lasko unit. I just got fed up with my Lasko tower fan (model 2515) making a rumbling noise on and off and so I took apart the entire thing. I found the noise to be coming from the Decomin 2033014 motor in the unit. Took apart the motor and found that it is so cheap that it doesn't even have bearings! Just a few plastic discs on a spindle. I tried greasing the discs again but it didn't work. The only solution is to get a new motor. I am really disappointed in the quality of these Lasko fans.
