Question about Linksys WRT160N Wireless Router

1 Answer

I can access the internet from my Apple MacBook Pro through my Linksys wireless router WRT160N. My printer is cabled to the router (ethernet), but I cannot print from my laptop. The cable is fine because if I shut off the wireless on my laptop and connect via ethernet (same cable) to the router, I can access the internet. So, what do I need to do to be able to print to my Canon ImageClass NF 6540?

Try "Softperfect Network scan" Scan your network I.e. "192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.255" till you find your printer.
good luck.

Why wont my wireless internet connect to any of my devices ive tried resetting them and everything

- First of all can you connect to the router via cable (ethernet cable)!!!
- Access the interface of the router and try disabling the wireless security on the router and save it.. With the help of your device try searching for wireless networks and if you see the router connect to it.. then if its connect it should work but careful ( anyone can access your connection then ) if that work then see with the person you bought the router..

peter_picasa:

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.

Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

My Friend ,

Login the router setup page .
And under router security settings uncheck the option (block anonymous internet request).
Set the wireless channel as 6 or 9.
And then use wep security key.
this will surely work.

Your Linksys WRT160N is a router that can be accessed via CAT-5 cables and wirelessly. You must configure the router though, for wireless use. If this is not configured or not configured correctly, then you may have problems using it wirelessly. Laptop computers usually use the 802.11g mode, not the 802.11n, at 54MB or with the right NIC in a desktop you can get 108MB. If it was working then quit without your doing anything, you may have to replace the router, but I doubt it.

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.

Internet connection problem.

If you have a macbook, it should have 802.11n, which gives you a 50ft range. Your linksys is probably the wireless G, which gives a 30ft range. Pull the power cable from the router and put it back in 5 secs later. Notice if you get flashing lights on the activity displat on the router. Linksys is the consumer side of Cisco. Ive seen those linksys routers blow in rainstorms. You may need to have to plug the computer to the router with an ethernet cable and reconfigure the wireless.

Let me know.....I can assist you in resetting the router.
