If the squigly lines is what I think its, distorted image due to multi colored bands, try to put in a different DVD. Some of the DVDs can have different standards being followed such as PAL or NTSC. Just like broadcast signals and VHS tapes, DVD also follow this and some of the players cannot outright translate the standards. Try to manually play with the two standards and see if it works. You unit should work with both PAL or NTSC. If the settings on the player does not work, I think that it is more on the disc especially if it was burned.

have u tried playing other dvds? is it working?

Did you try connecting to to a different external display? Check if the DVD plays fine on some other monitor/display?
