Hi...

If your washer does not drain, you need to check this:

  • Inspect the drain hose for kinks
  • Test the timer control
  • Test the lid switch (some models)
  • Inspect the water pump
  • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect the motor coupler
If it does not spin check also this:

  • Test the lid switch
  • Test the timer control
  • Test the centrifugal switch
  • Test the water level switch
  • Inspect the motor coupler
  • Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
  • Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
  • Test the motor
  • Inspect the pulley
  • Test the transmission

Good luck !!!

Regards
PCmania

SOURCE: my Whirlpool Ultimate Care II goes thru the wash

Check your lid switch to make sure it is functioning. This is a common symptom. If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Some washer models have the lid switch located near either the left or right hinge of the lid. This type of switch is activated by a rod on the hinge pin. If not functioning, it can often be adjusted by bending the hinge rod until it engages the switch.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Ult Care II fills/drains ok. no agitation-motor noisey

You may have a broken motor coupling. Failure to agitate or spin accompanied by the sound of the motor running with no tub action are some of the symptoms you can experience with this problem. Just to be sure...the following link explains the symptoms of a failed motor coupling and how to diagnose the problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3965207-whirlpool_top_loader_no_spin_problem

If you determine the coupler to be defective, the next link explains how to access the coupler and replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574231-replacing_a_motor_coupling

The part number is included in the instructions I provided. Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

All these sites are reputable and offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers I provided and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. The coupler is commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory. The average cost of a motor coupling is about $15.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Will not cycle to wash to rinse to spin

If your lid switch is broken it won't go past the wash mode because the control thinks the lid is open.

CYCLE WILL NOT COMPLETE

Hi

This would be due to the lid switch, the machine is designed that it will only spin and drain with the lid closed, if the lid switch goes bad the machine thinks the lid is open. Here is a link to a video that shows how to replace the switch.

Washing machine does go thru spin cycle or drain water.

If the washer does not spin, take off the rubber bumbers inculding the little washers attached, inside the lid. It lowers the lid, which takes care of the problem. I had the same problem. Not anymore! Trust me, if nothing is wrong with any other part of the washer, this will work.

Whirlpool ultimate care II will not spin

You said, washer is full of water and will not spin. You hear the lid switch clicking. When you start it on spin cycle and hear a hum, the tub moves a couple of inches and then stops...shortly after it shuts off.

Some reasons this may happen
Washer won’t drain or spin
n
1. Is the drain hose clogged, or the end of the drain hose
more than 72 inches (183 cm) above the floor?
2. Is the lid open? ............Also the lid switch can be faulty!!
The lid must be closed during operation.
3. Is there excessive sudsing?
Always measure detergent. Follow manufacturer’s directions.
4 If you have very soft water, you might need to use less
detergent.

Sounds to me like the lid switch can be faulty!!Then it acts like the lid is open.

Washer won't start spin cycle

sounds like a lid assy issue, can you hear a "clicking" just before the lid is closed, try opening nad closing a few times listening for a distinct "click" if not the machine doesnt think the door is closed and for safety reasons wont spin and drain.
