I have a sony FD Trinitron WEGA KD-36FS130. Today, the TV started randomly losing picture and sound. After a short rest the TV can be turned back on and is operational for a short time (5-30 minutes) and then the same problem occurs and the process of trying to get it back on again repeats. The standby light blinks 6 times when I lose picture and sound. I can still power off the TV because the standby light will go off when the power button is pressed and I'm assuming that the TV is really off at this point and not pretending to be off like it recently has started doing. I've probably only let the TV rest, while off completely, for 5-20 minutes before turning it back on again since the problem started occurring a few hours ago. So what's the problem and is it worth fixing?

The power supply board is failing. There are twi integrated circuits in the horizontal drive circuitry that have to be replaced. The original integrated circuits are the same type and you will see written on each..."MCZ3001D" and need to be replaced with Sony # 670581001 or the "D" board with those parts on it needs to be replaced. The cost of the entire board is high-about $375.

I
know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've
described can't be fixed with troubleshooting.
Your TV
will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect
and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be
repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least
one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you
purchased an extended service
plan
they will repair the TV at no charge as well.
If the TV is no
longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and
labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit
board
or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards,
the price of repair could go much higher.
