Only if it supports boot from other device on the bios menu...the issue my came on cause the external cd will use an usb slot ...and when you reinstall you loose for a few moments the usb drivers...my choice will be to reinstall in a different partition directly from a image windows on the computer ...and after that just delete the old windows and also ..delete the boot ini after that by running MSconfig ...and get rid of the stuff that will prompt you to choose the old OS when you boot...its more complicated...but its the safe way ..and will work for sure ...you can also choose to run a image from your D partition and replace your C partition windows without formating ...just reinstall in the same folder when will prompt you ...this might be triky when the pc is bugged and it might not get rid of all the viruses...to specify how to do that ...just open any image (ISO) windows with winrar and run set-up...
you may also try to make a bootable usb memory stick and install the system from it...cause if it supports external cd will suport a usb stick also ...I do not know exctly how to explain you to make such a stick but I sow on the insternet some reviws about ..and it isnt complicated...
the most simpler solution is to replace the cd rom ...with any model the will suit into your machine ...even if it doesnt fit proper...just use it open to install and after that put back the old one to cover the hole...and you will do that until you find a suitable cd rom ...lets be honest despite the fact that is frustrating not to have a cd drive ...you do not install it every week
Good luck ...and please prompt me with quiestions if I didnt make myself clear ...

Yes ,BUT you have to get the laptop to recognize the external cd drive as the master cd drive, before it will boot fron it.

Comp will not boot after installing a SATA DVD-RW

Perhaps your bios is set to boot from the 1st device it 'sees'.
When you add the dvd drive, maybe the device order gets shuffled up, making the dvd drive 1st. So, you need to check this by looking at the boot settings on the bios screen and change the boot order if necessary.

It say loading OS image everytime I turn it on and it won't do anything else. What could the problem be? I have a passnet notebook.

Well its obvious that if its not loading then the image on the hard drive is bad. If it has a cdrom borrow the same OS cd from a friend use your key. If not you will need an external cdrom and tell the bios to boot from external devices again using a friends cd. You can as well have this done at a shop most have all OS versions there already--Good luck...

I am cannot install OS Xp on laptop blue Il1,because drivers not support

Actually the problem is that the sata raid drivers of the IL1 is not readily available on the windows XP installer package. Another problem is that you cannot use the drivers on the installation because it uses a disk drive for loading and the IL1 have no disk drive or CDROM with it.

The solution is download or get the sata raid driver for the IL1 placed it on a diskette and attached an external CDROM and an external disk drive on your IL1. Open your notebook place the Windows XP CD in the CDROM, place the sata raid driver diskette on the disk drive. Make sure that the booting priority is set to the usb CDROM.

Upon loading of the Windows XP installation, you will notice a message on the status bar below the screen asking you to press F6 if you want to add additional device, press F6 and follow the instruction on adding the sata raid driver. Then your installation will continue till it finishes the Windows XP installation.

There is another way, but a little complicated. It is making a flashdrive installer of Windows XP OS. an integrating the sata raid driver in the flashdrive Windows XP OS installer. there's a guide somewhere in the internet that discuss the process step by step, I just can't remember on what site. I fount it by searching the net, I'm sure you can find it if you have time.

For now that's all I can share. Good luck friend.

How to install windows xp media center addition with external disc drive on aspire 1401. I am using an external disc drive to install a new os. reason being...when i apply control, alt, delete, the function...

Before you install your OS it is recommended to back up all your data, photos, movies, etc
After you have backed up everything, here are the steps to do it.
1. You will have to enter BIOS. Upon start up, press F2 key, then go to BIOS tab, select USB CDROM and use F6 to move it to first position. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
2. Now it will boot from external drive and you are able to install Windows.

Change the boot order in the BIOS to CDROM 1st. If that doesn't work then the BIOS of that version doesn't support booting to a USB Device

Windows won't start

hi i as you said you have no cdrom you are using an external cdrom this may be your down fall but i shell try my best for you ok .
first start the laptop up press f2 or del to go into *********** board settings when you have done that move your arrows to the right finding your boot option go into that and remove your hard drive from that this will make your sys search for the usb or cdrom to load from then you must save this on leaving the motherboard when you leave it will say save y do that then it will restart and find your cdrom make sure that you have the windows disk in the cdrom before you start ok follow the on screen insturctions telling you to format the hard drive this will wipe the hard drive ready for installing the new windows program on it ok
the reason when you loaded the windows on the other pc and put it in your laptop is the motherboard is not the main op sys for the hard drive hope this work for you if not get back in touch and we shell try another way ok thanks all the best
