Actually when I move the switch it says wireless LAN enabled. however, the light is no longer illuminated. I had this same thing happen with an hp about 1 week ago (strangely) and hp fixed it even though it was out of warranty because there it was a widespread problem. This acer is now acting the same way.

Cool. Thanks very much. I might resort to that for now.

Funny thing is that even though the problem has been intermittent, I have had the same issue on my other laptops. This only started when I changed my wireless security over to wpa2 personal. I recently changed it back to wpa and I havent had any problems since. I have only one laptop that never game me an issue and it is the oldest one (2003 model running xp). Maybe you can offer information as to why you think this may have been happening. The laptop running vista gave the most problems.

Hi, it seems to be an issue wih the software for the wireless adapter. Could you please specify the exact model number of the laptop and the operating system installed on it.

Once I get this information, I should be able to help you.

Well. It seems that the wireless adapter on the laptops do not support completely. The best thing you can do is to upgrade the firmware on the router. And you may continue using WPA encryption as it is strong enough.

Let me know if you still face any further issue.

    Regards
    Anand

Well some typo on the very first line. I mean to say tht the wireless adapter are sort of incompatible with WPA2.

I have a acer to and there is a button you press that activates the wireless on and off make sure the light is on.

Also check your drivers and make sure there installed properly, i am thinking something got shut off so see if you did not push the button or switch.

Thanks

No light means the card is gone, and your right about acer as I do have a open BBB complaint on them because of my LCD dying and they want me to pay to have it shipped to them in Texas. Wll the only fix here is getting a usb wirless card this will get you back online until you can get a wireless card to put into it.

I found these cheap on ebay you could even upgrade it to wirless N witch is pretty cool.

If you are running windows vista or windows 7 then you need to go to the power setting on the system, in the advanced options and look for wireless power setting. Turn the when on battery setting to leave the wireless card running instead of turning it off.

Go to display settings, screen saver, power options, balanced power or power saver, and look in there for the wireless adapter.

Still on Wireless Problem

If your laptop is the 4520, you need to download and install one of the wireless drivers (last 2 on the list) from http://www.laptops-drivers.com/acer-notebooks/free-download-driver-acer-aspire-4520.html (Check to see which one your laptop has, in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager.

If it's the 4530, look here http://seoroot.com/blog/driver-downloads/acer-aspire-4530-and-acer-aspire-4520g-windows-xp-drivers-download.html

Wireless adapter in Acer 5610-4610 is gone suddenly

Few ideas here, but obviously these are tricky questions.

Uninstall all software related to the wireless NIC, and then uninstall the hardware in device manager. Shut the machine down. Turn the machine over and remove all the little doors and look to see if the wireless NIC is an add-in card you can access. If it is, remove the retaining screw and remove it. Reboot machine, let it boot up, log in, and then shut down again. Reinstall the wireless card and close everything up again. When you reboot, you *should* get the new hardware found message, if you do, install the with the latest drivers and then reboot, and then check to see if the device is working properly in device manager (no warning messages). If it does not recognize the hardware, check in device manager if it has somehow put it on the unknown device list. If it has, try installing the latest drivers manually for the device by using properties tabs on unknown device in device manager.

If the problem is that the devices won't recognise and install their own drivers, you have a different problem which HP or whomever should solve.

Note, too, that if the laptop included custom control software for wireless connectivity (Intel, I am looking in your direction), the card may not be recognized without it, so install that software again, too.

Hope this helps...
