Question about Dryers

1 Answer

When I dry my towels in our dryers, they have started coming out with the "loops" of the material in strings. I then have to cut the strings off the towels. They almost look shredded. There is nothing in the dryer except my towels, and there is nothing sticking out to "catch" on the inside of the dryer. This just started happening. the dryer is about 15-20 yrs old.

air flow also required. if temp is coming up inside (120'+) look for bent duct out back, flapper stuck. blocked lint or foreign material, air flow holes blocked. assuming your drying other than like towel and your washer is spinning out water ok.

if helpful please rate me. if not please tell me more.

The drum stopped spinning when it was drying a load of towels and will not start again.

I had the exact same thing happen. I was drying a heavy load of towels and jeans and it just quit. No tumbling, no heat, no air.

I took my dryer apart and found that there's a thermo switch on the duct between the fan and exhaust. When open, this cuts power to the motor (which I think also cuts power to the heater).

This is the part: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4045367

I made a temporary jumper past this and it started. So, I have a new switch on order.

OUR CHURCH HAS AN 18" YARD MACHINE STRING TRIMMER BY MTD. MODEL NUMBER 25A-203L129. NO ONE KNOWS WHERE THE MANUEL IS AND WE NEED TO ADD CUTTING STRING. HOW DO WE DO THIS? 5.0 TECUMSEH ENGINE. THANKS MONTE

The trimmer line is pretty easy to attach. The trimmer line comes in pre-cut lengths, and is threaded in two places through loops on the spindle. (Two pre-cut trimmer lines are needed.)

How do you get the mildew smell out of a clothes dryer?

Very unusual problem with a dryer as it gets hot and would normally evaporate moisture causing mildew!

Try the following:
  • Unplug the power point of the dryer.
  • Gently clean the interior (and exterior) with a super absorbent cloth/non-scracth sponge lighty soaked in a mild bleach soapy mixture to kill off and remove the (blackish) mildew (Nappy wash is not a bad mixture). Weat rubber gloves for protection.
  • Let the unit wet for a few minutes and then using clean warm water and sponge, remove all trace of the bleachy soap on the unit as it is corrosive. Additional drying off with disposable paper towel will help remove any trace of bleach.
  • Put a wet clean bathroom towel lightly soaking with material conditioner mixture at double the normal recommended ratio, power the dryer and dry off the towel as per normal: the fabric conditioner is also a freshner.
  • Musty milldew odour should be gone!
Hope it helps! Please let me know how you go!

What is the best setting to dry jeans on a kenmore 9000 electric

Use Auto Dry for most things and vary the "dryness" level to more or less depending on the thickness of the material you are drying. Auto is most efficient and will adjust itself for finish time.

Auto dry and select "more dry" before hitting start, for jeans or towels.

Inside of my maytag atlantis electric dryer...top layer is erodin

I WOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT THE FINISH COMING OF EXPOSING ANYTHING TOXIC. WHAT COULD HAPPEN IS THAT WITH TIME, THE DRUM MAY RUST AND TRANSFER IT ONTO THE CLOTHES. DEPENDING ON ITS CONDITION, IT SEEMS NEW ENOUGH TO WARRANT INSTALLING A NEW DRUM. I DONT KNOW IF A COATING OF PORCALINE SPRAY PAINT WOULD STAND UP TO THE CONDITIONS IN THE DRYER BUT IT MAY BE WORTH A SHOT AS I DONT KNOW OFF HAND WHAT A DRUM SELLS FOR.

Dishwasher

Dishwasher: I'm assuming you are talking about when the dishwasher is not running. Correct? If the dishwasher accumulates water while sitting idle, it could be a couple of things. The water inlet valve could be leaking by, or you may have an improperly installed drain line. If you do not have a high loop in the drain line, water can back feed into the dishwasher when you drain your sink. Some dishwashers have a check valve on the drain line to prevent this.

Dryer: Dryer times will vary depending on the load size and type of clothing. Properly sort laundry to make sure lighter materials are separated from denser clothing that holds moisture. For example, if you attempt to dry jeans or towels with light cottons or linens, the moisture from the denser material will transfer to the lighter material. This can cause longer dry times. Towels and/or jeans should be dried on a hotter temperature setting - usually takes 30 to 45 minutes. Cottons and linens will take about 30 minutes on a lower heat setting. Make sure the dryer exhaust vent is not clogged. If the dryer cannot exhaust properly, the dryer heating circuits will actually overheat and eventually fail. The result is a hot dryer with clothes that will not dry. If you suspect you have a dryer vent problem, remove the vent hose from the back of the dryer and try drying a load. If your drying results improve, you probably have a clog in the dryer vent EXTERNAL to the dryer. If the results are the same, inspect the dryer INTERIOR. NOTE: Rule of Thumb - The SHORTER and STRAIGHTER the dryer vent, the better. Dryer vents that are excessively long, have many bends, or run through an attic or crawl space are the worst for accumulating lint. Also DO NOT push the dryer all the way up against the wall. This tends to crush the exhaust vent hose. Leave about a one foot space between the back of the dryer and the wall and use the semi-rigid metal type dryer vent hose. It resists crushing and rodents from chewing through it.

If you would post brand name and model numbers of your appliances in the future, it would make it much easier to diagnose a cause and be able to tell how the appliance is configured. I hope you find this information helpful.

MY TOWELS ALL COME OUT HARD AND ROUGH

no, the tumble dryer has nothing to do with it. My family always complain about our hard towels. Recently our front loader broke down & I had to hire a top loader til it was fixed - my towels became luxiously soft after just a few washes in it! I think it is how much more the washing is spun out. I am going to try to reduce the front loader spin speed when I get mine back. I never use a dryer on towels - takes too long.
