Our oven would not heat,everything appeared normal lights worked fan worked timer worked tried again on cook 3 closed door and lights went out and we have nothing,I have 120 volts at plug.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

You didn't tell us what you were doing when you had trouble, so it's hard to say. Many microwaves will appear to work normally (timer counts down, light comes on, etc.), but they will not come on if the door isn't completely closed. Usually they have a fan that runs while the microwave is cooking, and this won't come on. If the fan is on, but the food isn't getting hot, there's a good chance your microwave is dead. You can try to call a repair service, if it's in warranty, but the cost of repair is often close to the cost of a new unit with microwaves.

If all appears to be running as its working but just no heat. Could be issue with magnetron. You could also have loose connections to magnetron or somewhere in high voltaged as well.

We have a similar problem! It sounds like a problem with the microswitch inside the unit that the door is suppose to engage when closed. If not engaged properly, it will not cook. We had the switch replaced last March but it has started acting up again. We can press in on the door and/or lift it slightly and it will cook. Try putting time on the counter and hit start. It the word "cook" appears then try moving the door slightly and see if the turntable starts turning. If not, then you may have a more serious problem. Good luck!

Generic advice follows.

Do you open the door while the machine is cooking? Do it a lot? For a long time (months)? Check your door safety interlock switches. The microswitches can not stand that type of abuse. I have personal knowledge on this. I try not to open the door until it stops, but it is hard usually to do that!!!

The problem appears, at least in part, to the door latch circuitry which cannot be serviced by the owner. If the unit is still in warranty, call GE customer care. If not, replacing the unit is your best bet. I just bought a new GE 1100 watt oven with great features for less than $100 If the door dosen't latch correctly, you could be exposed to dangerous microwave energy.
