Check the starting capacitor- if ng replace it. Also check compressor motor windings. If they are ok then it is possible that the motor has seized. To confirm that check for the current draw of the motor while not running. Usually on the unit there will be a rating for normal current draw and a draw when the rotor is frozen. Check your reading against the frozen motor reading. And if the motor is frozen and not running it will be hot, very hot and the clixon will kill power to motor till it cools and it will shut down again as it overheats due to non operation.
The ice stays in the cubemaker tray for a set time and then empties into the bucket. If the freezer was too warm the ice wasn't frozen enough when the cube maker emptied it and it all stuck together. Now the fridge is cold again empty the bucket, make sure there is no ice stuck in the dispenser and try again. If it is a Samsung fridge do the above and turn it off for 30 seconds and back on again. Sometimes the controller and display freezes and reads the wrong temperature.
I understand the sides of your Frigidaire freezer are hot and the compressor is very hot. I also see that the drain plug was frozen and the coils had lots of frost, which you defrosted and your freezer began running again. It looks like your freezer quit again and started up, leaving everything hot. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose and determine what exactly is causing your appliance to be hot. Hope this is helpful.
When you say "The
items in the freezer are cold with some ice on them. I have tried
emptying the ice tray, but that does not help." Is there literally ice from the ice bucket dripping on the food and refreezing, or is there a layer of frost on the food? the noise you are hearing is most likely due to the evaporator fan motor running at alternating low and high speeds. This is a variable speed motor, but there could be quite a few reasons why the motor is not rotating at regulated speeds. the fan motor itself, a faulty thermistor, you could also have an issue with your main control board, or least of all a wiring issue. You would be wise to have it inspected by a reliable refrigerator repair service, to at least determine what the problem is for certain.
Good day, If it only occurs on a monthly cycle, even a service tech would not find it unless it happened while he was there. First choice would be to replace both the thermostat and the defrost control. These are the items that turn the machine off and on and either one could hang or stick once in a while.
NOW, that is based on the fact that the machine goes totally dead during that period. If you hear something, anything running then the above does not apply. The possibilities then, are, the fan motor in the freezer won't run (you can hear it running when you open the freezer door), the cooling fan motor behind the bottom rear cover that cools the compressor and condenser same situation, will not run.
Lastly, the start relay mounted on the side of the compressor is weak. It will not kick in the compressor, but in that situation, the fans will run.
Hope that helps. I've serviced a lot of refrigerators with that complaint, and it's always been the first 2 items.
