Question about Xerox DocuMate 262 Path-Through Scanner

1 Answer

Scanner problems I have had my scanner for a couple of years. It is grabbing the documents too hard and ripping some of them. It also dies out in the middle of scanning with a message saying the software needs to close. Where can I take it in the san diego area for a tune up

Re: scanner problems

Have you changed the ADF Pad Assembly? You should have gotten one replacement pad in the box with your scanner. Directions to change it out are on page 95 in the user guide manual.

How to Clean Scanner Glass

Steps how to clean scanner glass

1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water.
3. If the document table glass gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid.
4. Ensure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned images.

*** CAUTION: Do not press on the document table glass too hard.

5. Be careful not to scratch or damage the document table glass, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality.
6. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case.
7. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry.
8. Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner.
9. Never open the scanner case.

***NOTE: Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.

Ambir moble scanner not grabbing paper

Is it trying to grab the paper? Are the feed rollers working?
If not it's probably a mechanical fault.

Is it trying to feed but slipping?
You might need to go to Ambir's website and purchase some cleaning papers for it.

The automatic document feeder keeps grabbing the paper on one side and therefore creasing the paper so that it does not go through

Lift up on the ADF roller cover and look for a piece of paper. Remove the blue guide bar and the end where the paper flips under. If you can't find paper put the blue bar back and close the ADF (automatic document fee) lid. Lift up the flatbed scanner cover and look at the far left side to see a piece of obstruction. Clear that and try making a copy.

HP 8270 does not scan on windows Vista . Could not complete scan is the error message

Make sure you have the newest vista drivers located here - also, make sure that the scanner platen is travelling the full length of the scanner, it's not being hung up somewhere causing it to jam. Try to scan while the cover is open to watch the scanner head travel.

Try carefully taking the scanner apart and cleaning it out. A buildup of dust, even a thin layer can greatly reduce the quality of your scans.

Need a document feeder for 4990 scanner

I don't believe it is possible to add a paper feed to this scanner. The only hopper fed scanner of which I'm aware is the Kodak s1220.

Power On indicator Flashing, Scanner won't scan

It could be anything, when there's a hardware malfunction, the scanner just will not allow any action. As it is also an old scanner, any documentation of LED error codes will be long gone, too. It's a shame when well built peripherals die.

Doesn't turn on!

I had a "Doh!" moment the day after posting my problem. As I was packing up the scanner to put it in the attic, I suddenly noticed the on/off switch on the side. I'd never noticed it before. Connecting everything and flicking it to ON made the lights come on and my scanner worked perfectly. I'd recommend switching off at the mains after every use, however, as there is something a bit dodgy about the power supplies.
