Verify that the capacitor is a match for the motor that it is serving, you can do this with the model number of the fan or compressor, look the model number up on the mfg website and it will tell you what size cap. also verify that the terminals are making good connection, I usually cut out the old spade terminals and install new.

A/c unit has burned 2 capacitors within 1 month. the fan motor is running, but the compressor does not turn on. the system has a hard start kit installed. a/c tech recommends installing new unit for around...

Sounds like they did all that could be done. As long as they installed the right capacitor I will agree with this diagnosis to install a new unit. I don't know what you mean by "unit". 1900.00 seems a little low for a condenser and a little high for a compressor. But that is just me.

My washing machine keeps burning out the capacitor

Does your machine have a start cap. and a run cap? It could be that the run cap is failing because the start cap is not engaging. The purpose of a start cap. is to provide the additional boost to get the motor turning, it then drops out and the run cap. takes over to keep the motor turning. Run caps. typically are not big enough to start the motor and will fail over a period of time.

Microwave caught fire inside parts compartment.

Most likely causes are a shorted high voltage rectifier or burned-up high voltage transformer. Visual inspection should indicate which one. Be wary of the high voltage capacitor - some keep a charge of 4000 volts, or more, even when unit is unplugged.

Wiring diagram worn off outdoor ac unit, capacitor burned up got replacement part fixed all burned up ends keeps shorting out, carrier model 38RE042300,capacitor that burned up35/UF motor run capacitor +-5%...

Hi, if the first 35 uf run cap shorted, you most likely have a shorted to ground compressor. This is what causes them to burn out.A 35uf, x 440 volt run cap is for the compressor only. You should or will have a smaller one for the out door fan.1 lead from the contactor feeds one side of the capacitor, energizes it. The S wire also plugs into that same terminal. Then the R or run wire from the compressor, and C will go to the other side to start it. The 2 left ove have to be commons to feed other componants, you will need to follow them to see, as I can't pull up any diagram for that model. You need to have the compressor ohmed out, or checked to see if it is shorted to ground. To do this, remove the 3 wires to the compressor terminal. Make sure the power is off! If you have a voltage tester that has the audio alert for checking fuses and so on, touch the black lead to a clean spot on the compressor of copper line, and tough each one to each terminal. If you get a beep, it is shored to ground, and you will need to replace your compressor. Do this check and let me know.

Fan runs loud and constantly on my HP dc-5100 SFF desktop

The dc5100 SFF is notorious for blown capacitors on the motherboard. I had one where the fan ran at top speed all the time. There was a swollen capacitor located at the end of PCI slot 1. I believe it is C469. It is a 1000uF 6.3volt cap. I replaced the capacitor and that fixed the problem. Keeping the computer cool will lengthen the life of the capacitors. It is wise to periodically remove the dust so cooling air will flow. How ever, once a capacitor goes bad, the only fix is to replace it. A blown capacitors will be swollen. The normally flat top will be curved upward and possibly leaking a brown crusty material.

Vlz 16 blowing fuses

This is a serious problem. If you spilled liquid into the unit, expect serious internal damage.

DO NOT keep replacing fuses as you may be creating further damage.

Best scenario is if the input to the power supply has shorted diodes or capacitors. Worst is that part of the circuit board has been burned.

Taking it to a shop or having electronic skills and opening the unit up to troubleshoot are the options.

HI I have a 30k BTU armstrong unit, compressor runs fine , but condenser fan doesn's start, does it works with the capacitor?

Many outside AC units have just one capacitor that starts the compressor and the fan. Some units however have two. Just follow the wires from the motor to the capacitor, pull it and test it. Make sure you disconnect the power from the unit by pulling the fuse block first. If the capacitor is good the motor may have siezed up or burned out.
