Question about Avid Cycling
This started happening on my quad core workstation at home about 4 months ago and I just learned to deal with it. I assumed it was a problem with the keyboard. Now just today this started happening on my work computer. I have transferred files between the two and the problem feels virus-esque but scans on both computers turn up nothing.
Holding either shift key and then hitting the quote key '' doesn't display the quote symbol until ANY other key is pressed. When I just typed that quote above I had to hit the space key twice. Once to get the quote to show, once to get the space. If I use space it simply drops in the quote but no space. If I use a digit or letter key, it puts the digit or letter immediately after the quote and I have to then backspace to delete the digit or letter.
The quad core machine is running the latest version of Windows XP Professional and using a corded microsoft keyboard.
The work machine is running the latest version of Windows Vista and using the same style of microsoft keyboard, only wireless.
Similar software has not been installed on both machines, meaning that I haven't brought any software from home that I have on the quad core and put it on my work machine. Of course there are the standards like IE and Chrome, but not from the same installation source.
Could not find a similar problem searching on Google for this problem with more than 30 different search phrases. What the heck is going on?!
This is some sort of setting in windows that allows you to easily make characters such as í é ê ë and so on by pressing the quote or hat key and then the letter (I think it only works for vowels)
I'm not sure how to fix this, but you can temporarily change this by pressing alt+shift. Alt+Shift will toggle between 3 different settings, 1 of them being the one that gives the problem you have and the other 2 seem to be normal. It will probably switch back when you restart the computer, there's probably a way to permanently set it to how you want but I don't know how.
So basically, if your keyboard is acting odd press Alt+Shift once or twice and it should return to normal. Also, this will only work if you use the left side alt and shift keys.

Having an identical problem. Only information I have to add is that I'm pretty sure the problem is with Google Chrome. I don't have the problem in any other software except with typing in Chrome.
My keyboard options for Win7 are English - US and nothing else and I'm still seeing the problem. About to reboot though to see if that fixes it. Will post back in a minute.

I have the same exact problem too! I have been searching for fixes but
to no avail. I you figure out how to fix it please let me know and I
will do the same. It also happens for the carrot key ''^''
btw I have the core i7 processor so I don't think it has something to do with that.
