Question about Avid Cycling

SHIFT and quote key doesn't type '' until you press another key.

This started happening on my quad core workstation at home about 4 months ago and I just learned to deal with it. I assumed it was a problem with the keyboard. Now just today this started happening on my work computer. I have transferred files between the two and the problem feels virus-esque but scans on both computers turn up nothing.

The summary:
Holding either shift key and then hitting the quote key '' doesn't display the quote symbol until ANY other key is pressed. When I just typed that quote above I had to hit the space key twice. Once to get the quote to show, once to get the space. If I use space it simply drops in the quote but no space. If I use a digit or letter key, it puts the digit or letter immediately after the quote and I have to then backspace to delete the digit or letter.

The facts:
The quad core machine is running the latest version of Windows XP Professional and using a corded microsoft keyboard.

The work machine is running the latest version of Windows Vista and using the same style of microsoft keyboard, only wireless.

Similar software has not been installed on both machines, meaning that I haven't brought any software from home that I have on the quad core and put it on my work machine. Of course there are the standards like IE and Chrome, but not from the same installation source.

Could not find a similar problem searching on Google for this problem with more than 30 different search phrases. What the heck is going on?!

This is some sort of setting in windows that allows you to easily make characters such as í é ê ë and so on by pressing the quote or hat key and then the letter (I think it only works for vowels)

I'm not sure how to fix this, but you can temporarily change this by pressing alt+shift. Alt+Shift will toggle between 3 different settings, 1 of them being the one that gives the problem you have and the other 2 seem to be normal. It will probably switch back when you restart the computer, there's probably a way to permanently set it to how you want but I don't know how.

So basically, if your keyboard is acting odd press Alt+Shift once or twice and it should return to normal. Also, this will only work if you use the left side alt and shift keys.

I did some more google searching and found out how to fix this.
Open up the control panel and go to "Regional and Language Options"
Then click the Languages tab and then the "Details..." button
In the new dialog box you will find "Default input language" at the top. A drop down menu lets you choose which you want, it's probably set to something odd such as United Kingdom or International. Select "English (United States) - US" or anything else ending is US. You can also change or disable the alt+shift shortcut key by clicking the Key Settings button.
Once you do this and click Apply/Ok the keyboard will work normally, even after restarting the computer.

Having an identical problem. Only information I have to add is that I'm pretty sure the problem is with Google Chrome. I don't have the problem in any other software except with typing in Chrome.
My keyboard options for Win7 are English - US and nothing else and I'm still seeing the problem. About to reboot though to see if that fixes it. Will post back in a minute.

All good now. Hadn't rebooted in awhile or closed Chrome in awhile, so I'm not sure which helped really, but after confirming that my keyboard/language was English - US (not English - International), and rebooting, now the quote key problem no longer exists.

click the start orb, and then type CMD in the search, when it pops up with cmd in the box right click and click run as administrator and press enter. when it loads up the black msdos box, type "sfc /scannow" no quotes. allow that to run. then try the update again. If that doesn't help, follow the same steps to open up the cmd dialogue box and type "chkdsk c: /r" no quotes. It will give you a message stating that it cannot run the /r flag because the disk is active, but will also give you the option to run chkdsk @ next boot. go ahead and schedule to run at next boot, and restart the computer. This should allow you to run the original command posted here once again. Then after it finishes run the update one more time. if THAT doesn't help download this tool: and run http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 following the prompts should allow you to complete the update.

sounds like you killed the starter relay. If it takes a lot to start a bike eventually the contacts can weld themselves "open" causing the starter to continue cranking which would explain the sound you heard at the red light.

Way too easy :-)

When you were listening to messages you probably pressed the SKIP button for longer than 2 seconds. Try pressing it and holding it again and see what happens.
