Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I bought a frigidaire refigerator in March, 2007, noticed recently it was getting warmer inside. Pulled it out to clean coils and saw a date stamped on back of fridge with the words fix 06 beside it. What does this mean?

It should be OK and not 06 as you mentioned. Please have a look again and reconfirm it. It says that the unit is tested and in good working condition a certification from the final check point of the unit at the factory.

The failure of cooling is due to refrigerant leak and I wonder whether you have moved the refrigerator from the original place of installation. During moving the fridge the condenser coil would have been touched and resulted in refrigerant leak and resulting in poor cooling or no cooling at all. This also would have taken place over a period of time and not instantly on a fine morning. By recharging the refrigerant your unit should cool perfectly.

It sounds like your freezer was going through the automatic defrost cycle but the water couldn't go through the plugged drain. Clean the drain so the water can go out.
The refrigerator side gets cold by the cold air that comes from the freezer, so in order to have a cold refrigerator you need a cold freezer.
After you have cleaned the drain, turn all back to original settings.
Hope this helped, let me know.

I have a GE Profile PSW26PSW. I bought it new in

If the condensor is dirty, the frig will have to work like the dickens to to stay cool. The condensor coils are either under the unit, or on the back. the newer units tuck them neately under the unit and a good toilet brush, degreasser soap, like "Dawn" works great. If she still is heading south, My first guess would be the compressor, or the thermostat. Try the Condenser coil cleaning first. Lloyd

Fridgeaire upright freezer is getting warmer and warmer. How do I

there is no way of cleaning the coils.there maybe a problem with the should hear a fan running inside the freezer when it is in the cooling cycle and the compresor is running if you do not here the fan running this could cause a cooling issue and the evaporator could be building up with ice.
check the rear of the freezer to see if there is any ice build up.

Temperature of the refigerator recently got colder

I believe your auto damper may be defective and stuck open, Let me send you the service nanual and a page to go toand look it over. The auto damper has a thermostat coil inside and sometimes the probe leaks the freon out of its pigtail leaving the damper stuck open oe closed and some time frost will cause them to stick.

As a start, try cleaning the coils and fan under the refrigerator.

You would not believe how many refrigerators and freezers I've worked on which required nothing but a good coil cleaning. The dirtier these coils get, the less efficient the unit becomes until it reaches a point that it almost appears as if the refrigerant unit is not working at all when all it really needs is a good cleaning.

While you're under there, be sure the fan is running to pull air over the coils to cool and condense the freon inside them.

Refrigerator and freezer not getting cold

Clean out the coils on the bottom, make sure the fan motr is turning below and remove the relay from the compressor. A lot of these relays are failing lately. If the relay sounds like a slt shaker inside it is toat. if it makes no sound at all it is bad. You should beable to feel the sliding start switch inside.

FRS26HF5AB3 2002 model Freezer is not getting cold - cleaned coils and restarted unit and worked for 20 hrs. It is now at 38 f and going up.Noticed the problem three days ago when water was dripping out of...

Using the process of elimination, I restarted the unit a couple of more times and noticed a clicking sound from the compressor. I realized it was definately the compressor or one of its components. I purchased a "3 in one connector". Which in 75% of the time it will take care of the relay, capacitor etc. I turned it back on and it worked for about one minute. That told me that it was the compressor itself. This is a Frigidaire and they were made to look good not to be serviced ! This unit is less than seven years. It has been serviced three times. It goes out today when the new one comes in.
Service people shun away when they hear that you have a Frigidaire. They are almost impossible to service. My next step is to locate a servicable refrig. and a model that I like. You learn from experience. I loved my first Frigidaire but that was back in the late 70's. They used to be GM, Frigidaire. Now the government owns them. The quality is no longer there and they lost me as a customer for good!
I hope that this has helped someone solve a problem. Remember, if you think that it is somthing to do with your compressor you may be able to fix it with a "3 in one connector". Find an appliance parts dealer in your neighborhood. The site that I saw online was very expensive. Look around and price things out. The store may even take back the part that you bought, if it does not solve the problem, for a restocking fee. Much less than the cost of the part. So ask questions first! Good luck...

Hi franconiachi,

Yes, chain saws earned their keep this past winter!
If you paid for it with a credit card, the dealer you bought it from may be able to pull up the original recipe, though I guess more than a year ago may be backed up already.

I'm not a Husky dealer, but if he could provide you with a contact who could, I would think that someone at Husqvarna corporate could verify the manufacture date.

Another idea is to go through you old bank statement, find the transaction, photocopy it and either use that to track down the original recipe through the original dealer -- they'd then have the exact date and could fax a reprint to you -- or maybe the Husky dealer would accept it.

Reminds me to send in my warranty card...

Good luck,
