Question about Air Tools & Compressors

1 Answer

We have a Craftsman electric air compressor (6hp, 150psi, 30 gal upright) it will only start up and run 10 seconds then throws the breaker switch. Now that is all it will do, we plug it in, it runs for 10 seconds and then throws the breaker.

the start capacitor on the motor body is weak, the motor needs this component to over come the air pressure when cycling to re-build the low air pressure, change both the start and run capacitors when doing the start because the other run capacitor is just as old and it will soon fail

Problem with the craftsman 30 gal compressor 6 hp vertical oil free. motor or compressor will not engage, when turned motor starts for a second and sound slow then pops the breaker

sounds like you are not getting enough voltage to run the compressor if you are using an extension cord check your manual to see what gauge it should be depending on how long it is if you are plugged into a wall outlet then is the compressor the only thing that is running on the circuit if some thing else is running then you may be overloading the circuit.

It will start to run but seam kinda slow and will pop the breaker after 10 seconds. it is a upright 5 hp. ran fine and then not no lead in to the prob.

Make sure the service that you have the compressor plugged into is sufficient to run that big of a motor. ie, a 20 or 30 amp breaker/service.

Breaker blows out when starting up compressor

there are a number of possible causes. you really need an amprobe to read the draw as the compressor starts up. Then check the label on the motor. There is also an unloader in the air loop that allows the unit to start up with no air pressure against it. to help you you really need to give alittle more info.

Craftsman 6hp 150psi 30gal won't keep running

It sounds like the internal circuit breaker in the motor is heating up and then the breaker trips to shut down the motor. This is the protection so you don't have a fire if the motor burns up. The smell you have is the coils in the motor. Sorry to say that you will need a new motor for this unit. I hope this helps out.
