My camera did the same thing. Try doing a couple of things.

1) remove and digital media cards.
2) turn the camera on and delete any pictures that may be stored in the camera memory (not on a removeable card)
3) remove the batteries for 60 seconds
4) replace the batteries without the media card and lay the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointing up (not sure if this helps, but it worked for me)
5) The lens should retract.
6) Turn off the camera
7) replace the media card and turn on.

I think for some reason my camera was getting hung up on the pictures stored in the camera's memory.

My camera's lens remains out, even when I try to turn it off.  It sounds like it is trying to cycle it closed, but is not succeeding.  Anyone have any ideas?  Is it worth trying to fix?

I was taking a picture when all of a sudden the camera shut off. The lense was still out.  I tried turning it on but it won't.  I charged the battery but nothing happened.

Will not focus. Screen is fine when viewing photos taken before it began blurring.

In the middle of taking pictures, suddenly the camera turned off and the lens is stuck in the extanded position. Fully recharging the battery didn't help solve the problem.

When I pull the lens cover back, the camera won't turn on and the lens won't come out like it normally does. Battery is freshly charged, but I even tried a new battery. Still won't turn on.

My lens won't close and the camera will no longer turn on. When it was plugged into my printer dock it turned on but quickly off again.

Kodak V550, battery used up while in video mode- now the lens willnot retract even after charging battery. I think it is a manufacturer defect. Anyone solve a similar problem?

Comment by tommyman, posted on Mar 31, 2008

Same A95 camera, all of a sudden, the power turned off, lens did not retract, power won't come on again, even with fresh batteries.

Comment by jimheh, posted on Mar 29, 2008

The lens did not retract when turning off camera. An E18 error code appeared in lower left corner of display. Zoom controls did not work.
I changed the Compact Flash card and the camera works fine. So far so good.

I have the same problem with my dsc-p92. My lens won't open with new batteries. I took it to the Geek Squad. They weren't very helpful; said I could send it away for 3 weeks to get a diagnosis.

Comment by ronhoo, posted on Dec 29, 2007

Same here with C-60. I saw anoher post indicating the circuit board may be bad and to leave the battery out for 24 hours to force the camera to reset, but if there is an internal battery this will not work

Comment by Guest, posted on Dec 27, 2007

I have same exact problem
