The wire may have came loose but then again it could be the electronic starter

If I were to change my 1979 Harley sportster from points to electronic ignition would I need to get a single fire or a dual fire. Also what else would I need to do this


Grasshopper, dual fire would be cheaper all you would need is the electronic ignition timer plate. Single fire you would need a new single fire coil and single fire ignition timer plate. Here is a tip for your ongoing battle. Remove your coil and check it cold with an ohmmeter. Primary resistance should be 4.7 to 5.7 ohms. Secondary resistance should be 16,000 to 20,000 ohms. Then get a hair dryer or heat gun and heat up the whole coil until it gets very warm to hot to the touch and check it again if it's out of spec you need to replace it. If my 1981 flt has points ignition, then I don't have to purchase a centrifugal advance to convert to electronic ignition. Is this correct?

The hot tub Hester will not light up pilot but does turn on and bow cold air

Many things could be wrong. First off, the exhaust fan turns always goes on when you turn on(up) the thermostat. It does that to suck out any residual gas in the combustion chamber. After about 10 seconds you should hear a click which is the gas valve opening to let the gas into the chamber. You should also hear a series of clicks for about 10 sec, which is the electronic ignition firing. If you hear the clicking of the ignition, but do not smell gas from the exhaust, then the gas feed is being blocked. If you don\'t hear the ignition clicking then the computer board is detecting a fault condition by one of its sensors: over-temp, water flow, exhaust fan . These are all in series and if one doesn\'t pass then the ignition won\'t fire.

Electronic fuel pump doesn't alway run when you turn on the ignition


That only means the pressure is still within range,so it doesn't have to run until injectors let fuel thru into engine and it fires up.
What problem are you having,that makes you think it has a fuel problem.Be specific,please? don-ohio (:^)

The crank sensor indicates that the crank is actually spinning, and NO it doesn't "help" the bike crank, but should not stop the "Fire" However IF you exhaust every other possibility, then replace it and see? However really first, what you need to check the battery earths, coil, or electronic ignition, points, or reluctor, all wiring to and from battery and ignition, check all leads, usually it's best to simply replace the spark plug and leads to be sure. Electrical problems can be hard to sort out. Just slowly work through all possibilities, try to get a service manual, this will help you greatly, Google for one or try the bike shop/manufacturer.

It is possible that the trigger to the HT coil is absent and so there is no HT or firing. So check on the platinum points or the electronic ignition and check the PULSATING voltage on the HT coil negative side.
If there is trigger with no HT output then the coil is faulty. If not check the condenser and the points. Set the gap correctly or replace. If this has an electronic ignition then check the sensor and the circuit if there is a failure.

1. Severely discharged or damaged battery.
2. Loose, corroded or broken battery cable.
3. Alternator not charging or below normal rates.
4. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
5. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Water or dirt in fuel system, carburetor or filter.
8. Fuel tank vent system plugged or gas cap not venting.
9. Fuel tank empty.
10. Fuel valve vacuum line broken or carburator vent line closed off.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.

Hello there:
if you have replaced the coil pac you may want to remove it again and make sure there is no moisture or corrosion then if and still have nothing check the crank sensor and the ignition module i just replaced mine after several weeks of troubleshooting and now it is fine
and finally and hopefully this is not your problem is the ecu or electronic controle unit this is the first line of the ignition system and the most important it tells the coil pac to fire and tells which one to fire and when this can have part of it be bad and still have other coil pacs to fire ok

Yes. The ignitor is trying to find fire and it can't. That's an ignition error. It should go away once you get fire to the sensors. You might have to hit a reset button, it all depends on the heater.
