    No video w/tv or dvd.

  • scotteddy71 Jul 14, 2009

Sometimes when you first turn it on in tv mode it has a snowy picture and makes a high pitched noise for couple seconds and then goes black.

Thank for the info. Do you have guess what it would cost to replace those parts? It's a $250 tv. If it can't be fixed for $130 or so it doesn't seem worth it.

    Thanks again.

Hi

Could you provide a bit more detail? No video from the TV or no video from the DVD?

Thanks.

Ok - given your description this is obviously an internal component failure and not something that can simply be resolved through programming picture setting adjustments etc....

When a TV presents with symptoms of no picture, but working sound this is characterised by a problem within the high voltage system of the TV.

Sound with no picture is almost always due to failure of the high voltage autotransformer called the flyback and/or the horizontal output transistor. These components work together to produce the high voltage and horizontal scanning required to produce video and make a picture.

As always if you intend to open and work on the internal circuitry of your TV it is vital that you make sure the unit is unplugged from any power source.

You will require multimetering equipment to check through these components individually to pinpoint the fault and ideally this is a job for a technician owing to the complexities involved.

Unless you have electrical experience at this level I would recommend this to be the proper course of action.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

    Hi

It depends on which of the components is found to be at fault really. A simple resistor fault should not cost that much to repair, however if both components are out it could definitely make the repair not worth while.

I will often get customers to give me a cut off point at which they don't want the repair to proceed so if I subsequently determine that the repair is going to cost more than that I will phone them and if they don't want to proceed I make only a small charge to cover the inspection.

Some repair shops are better than others so phone around to get an idea of what their practice is. Some will even look for a non returnable deposit before they even get to open the TV which is a bit poor in my opinion but then shops do this as they get sick of customers wanting a repair done who then don't come back for the unit because they don't like the cost of the repair.

So golden rule is figure what its worth to you and get a shop who is willing to inspect and make only a small inspection charge if the repair is going beyond your cut off point.

Hope this helps and don't forget to rate my answer. Thanks

My daughter put the blue ray DVD into the Toshiba 14DLV75 instead of the regular DVD and now it won't eject it. It just keeps spinning like it wants to eject, but won't. How can I get it out?

Hello
Just switch OFF the set by its front panel power control switch, and then switch it On and press the eject button without any delay. Sometimes the tray will eject, and try to close. If so switch OFF the front panel power switch, while it is out, and take away the blu-ray disc. the switch it On. All will be ok then.

Toshiba 14DLV75, stuck in game mode, buttons on TV & remote

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it by pressing all the keys. You can detect the presence of infra-red emission from the remote control, using a cell-phone camera. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. In some cases, the remote control might need to clean.

CODE FOR DIRECTV REMOTE

I am a installer for Directv and tv's that incorporate a dvd and/or vcr usually do not respond to the directv remote. Trust me I tried all the codes. I did find programming the av1 on the dtv remote for the dvd player would control the volume and on/off for the tv. Try the dvd codes rather than the tv codes. If no luck I recommend a Harmony remote which works well with combo tvs. Although expensive they are you must consider the convenience factor they provide.

Code for Direct TV remote control

Program AV1 with 20695, program TV with 10765, then switch to AV1, press select/mute, enter 933, and press select

This will allow volume and mute controls while in DTV mode and allow power on and off while in TV mode. This worked for me on the RC32 remote control.

Best of luck
