Hello there, so very sorry to hear about the troubles you are having.
There are a few possibilities of what could be wrong with the device. The first, and simplest, would be to reboot the unit, to do so just take the battery completely out, make sure its unplugged, and let it sit for a few minutes. Put back together and try again. If that doesn't work then it could be that the battery has worn out. Rechargeable batteries over time do wear out, so if it works fine while plugged in, but dies after 5 minutes unplugged then it is very likely that this is the issue. You can purchase replacement batteries either through Radioshack or online by googling apd3911 battery.
If it shuts itself down after 5 - 10 minutes even while being plugged in then you have a more serious issue on your hands. It is most likely a heat and/or voltage problem. It could be a voltage problem causing the heat, a heat problem from something else, or a voltage problem that isn't causing heat but is causing it to short out after a few minutes of use. To verify this you could try running the device with a fan blowing directly on it at full speed, if it stays on any longer than you know that heat is the issue.
If it is either of the last few suggestions then you will need to contact radio shack to find out about possible warranty repairs or replacement. Otherwise unfortunately it looks like the device will have to be replaced =(.
So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but hopefully one of the earlier suggestions will fix it up!
Thanks
