Question about Carrier Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a air compressor that I know the fan is bad in the outside unit. The compressor is not turning on. Yesterday the only way that the fan would run is with a push, now today it won't run at all. If the fan is not at full strength, will the compressor turn on. I want to know if I need a new air conditoner or is there hope in fixing this unit...

Thanks for getting back so quickly for firsts...

I guess that my main question is... Is there a relay/connection that doesn't allow the compressor to start unless the fan is up to full speed in this model of Carrier? Yesterday, my fan would run, but it wouldn't get up to full speed. I am wondering if this was the reason that the compressor wasn't starting?

I put a volt meter to the system last night to make sure that my fuses were good and the 230 was getting through the connection. All read good for fuses and 230 to the capacitor. I also volted out the compressor connection on the capacitor last night. It was sitting at 89 mv in off and then spicked up to 350 mv when the fan kicked in. Don't know if that helps, but just thought that I would give you everything that I know

    Thanks,

    Bryan

Thanks, I will try to put another fan in and try that... one last question... There is no writing on my capacitor, but there are about 30 - 40 types out on the web. Do you have any references to what capacitor is in this Carrier?

    Thanks,

    Bryan

I was thinking that replacing both the fan and the capacitor would be a good idea.

There is definitely hope in fixing this one as long as its just the fan not working. Carrier can easily fix it for you if you want. If you are looking for any more specific information, I would be glad to help but I will need the model number of the unit. Have a great day

Thanks for the model number, did you have any other specific questions? The fan motor is probably what needs to be replaced but it needs to be tested (If voltage is directly applied, it should run). I would also suggest cleaning the whole unit. Compressed air works nice for this.

The fan keeps the unit cool, the pump/compressor won't run unless it is being cooled enough

First try applying voltage to the fan motor to see if it works before replacing the motor. No I don't have the specs on the capacitor. It should say right on it what size it is otherwise try calling the local carrier shop and they should have the specs for it or can direct you to someone who would. Sorry about that...

We have a weather king central air unit mod# WAKA-030JAZ. ser#5339 mo6959417. volts 208/230. compressor rla 13 5/13.5. outdoor fan motor f.l.a.9. mfd 02/05. hertz 60. l.r.a.76. hp1/6 min supply...

I would bet the outside units contactor is bad. This is the device where the two thermostat wire connect outside. If this is pulling in/out as you turn the stat on/off then it is working. I just fixed one yesterday with the same symptoms and found the start capacitors were bad. If they are bulged at the top or bottom then they are bad. Good luck.

My air conditioner has stop working its blowing air inside but the fan is not spinning outside .....

If the fan is not running is the compressor not running also...if neither is running the possible reasons are 1..no power to outside unit...2..bad contactor on outside unit.is this buzzing if it is this indicates no power...3 bad capacitor,do both compressor and fan humm then quit humming and hum some more...4 high pressure switch has shut unit down because fan wasnt running if compressor was running but not fan....if your unit has this there will be a manual reset button where the lines come out of unit...if compressor was running and fan was not...1 bad fan...2 bad capacitor.. if you do not have any electrical knowhow i would recommend calling a hvac tech to come and fix unit...Thanks

THE FAN IN THE OUTSIDE UNIT IS NOT WORKING. INSIDE UNIT RUNS BUT NO COOL AIR IS COMING OUT OF VENTS. IS THERE A REST BUTTON OLN THE OUTSIDE UNIT?

either the fan has went out or the capisitor for the fan is bad and needs to be replaced.if you have run the outside unit very long without the fan turning you might be replacing the compressor as well as the fan or capisitor.if the fan isnt pulling air through the cond coil outside, the compressor gets very hot very fast, and it locks down(burns up). get it looked at asap before it cost more because of other broken parts caused by the fan not working.

How do I know if compressor of my house air conditioner is turning on when I start my air conditioner? When I start my air conditioner the fan outside the house turns on, the air is blowing from the vents...

if the compressor is starting there will be a very small dimming in the house lights,if you go outside to the unit and start it from the outside disconnect when the compressor starts you will hear a whine type noise coming from the outside condenser unit that is the hermetic compressor motor operating,no cold air can be a number of issues, low on refrigerant(not likely on the new sealed systems) a bad motor start/run capacitor(quite likely) a bad contactor on the outside unit that supplies power to the compressor, one leg of the 240volts that supplies the compressor power, the fan will run on 120 volts, but the compressor needs 240 volts check the fuses.breaker in the power panel

My air conditional unit outside ,fans turns on but the unit compressor wont turn on,just stopped working this morning.i turned the thermostat to 72 but only the fan on the outside unit comes on and it is...

Somethings aperson cant fix without a service tech. First it could be wire burnt of capacitor going to compressor. Second it could be bad capacitor. There is a dual capacitor on the ouside unit one side says herm that runs the compressor. Turn power off to check to see if wire is burnt of the herm terminal or the C ternminal. Wire burnt off compressor common terminal.. Could be locked up compressor. Unless you know how to troubleshoot unit. You may have to call service tech. Cost if bad cap. is about 100 to 150. But unit wont run without it. Rus
