Question about Dell Latitude C610 Notebook

LCD screen barely visible on my daughter's C610

I have replaced the inverter but need to replace the backlight. Can anyone direct me to some very detailed instructions on how to accomplish this. This has been a good little computer for her and she will be getting a new one next year before university but until then she has to put up with this one so I would like to fix it properly but as inexpensively as possible. So before I order a new bulb I would like to see just how hard this task will be. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You need a new lcd screen. There is no bulb to replace. Try ebay, that's where I get most of mine. To replace it, just take it apart the same way you changed the inverter.

Dim screen on HP. Any diagnostics I can run to isolate the problem?

The problem is in the inverter board, "located below the screen" or the backlight behind the LCD display is faulty. In most cases the inverter is the issue and replacement only option, "be aware that high voltage is present when running"

My Sony VAIO Laptop screen is black. It worked fine, no issues2 days ago. Went to turn it on last night and it is black.. When light hits at a certain angle, I can see the desktop, I can hear the startup...

A faint and barely visible image on the screen indicates that the backlight(s) that illuminates the display isn't powering on. A device called an inverter board takes DC power from the laptop motherboard and converts it to AC power to power the screen backlight.
Before attempting anything below, be sure and remove the laptop battery and unplug the laptop
You need to take the screen apart and check to make sure that no cables are loose that are connected to the inverter board. If everything is secure, the next thing I would do is try to test the inverter board by hooking up an LCD from another laptop to the inverter and turning the laptop on to see if it lights up. If the other screen does light up, then the inverter board is likely good and your backlight needs to be replaced. Backlight replacement, unfortunately, can be very tricky for even an experienced technician, and many will opt to just replace the entire screen.
If you can't test the inverter board, then it might be worth it to order one and see if installing it fixes the problem.

Dull laptop screen back light

You may have a faulty CCFL lamp. A faulty CCFL lamp may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering and/or with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight or a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp. Usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

My C610 Dell has a screen that is a little darker than it should be. Would this likely be the backlight or inverter. Should both be replaced at the same time as a matter of standard procedure? T R

Have you tried adjusting first the brightness level? If nothing happens when adjusting it, the LCD and LCD cable needs to be replaced. If im not mistaken, i believe there is no backlight/inverter that can be replaced since its already built in the LCD. Some Dell laptops have inverters like Studio 1737 that can be replaced. Hope this helps

Screen is to dark. cannot see letters very well.

Suggest you press the Fn key And the key to increase brightness, first. (Should be a key that has a sun icon on it)

Barring this does not increase the visibility of your LCD screen, the I suggest the Backlight is bad, or the Inverter.

The Backlight is a type of CCFL tube (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) mounted to the LCD screen. The LCD screen needs the light given off of the Backlight.

Replacing the Backlight is a daunting task, and if done wrong, will cause possible damage to the LCD screen.

The LCD screen itself has a thin metal frame holding the components of the LCD screen together. This frame must usually be opened on the side that has the backlight, to access the backlight. The components that make up an LCD screen are fragile, and can easily be damaged.

The Inverter supplies power to the LCD screen, as well as the Backlight.
Inverters do go bad, but commonly it's the Backlight to go first.

This shows a typical Backlight replacement. It IS not an advertisement to attempt this yourself, but a reference tool for information.

My lenovo Y510 ideapad turns on but the screen remains black. All of the buttons light up, but the screen stays like it is in sleep mode. I have tried rebooting, removing the battery but nothing seems to...

The next tim eit is turned on, try shiniing a bright flashlight directly on the screen.

If you can see anything there then the backlight has burned out on the screen, and will need to be replaced.

If you cant see anything, try hooking up an external monitor to the laptop, if you have a desktop the monitor for it will work for the test..

If the external monitor you hook up will work, then you will have to replace the screen..

( or at a minimum the inverter board, or check that the cables are tight that go to the screen)

Laptop fell from 3 foot high shelf. Display is barely visible now, can see it but only if direct light is shone at an angle.

It sounds like you broke the backlight in the display. You will need to replace the LCD screen.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

LCD screen is blank (Dell Latitude C610)

I would say that it is a faulty backlight. The CCFL is a huge pain to replace on its own, but is much cheaper than replacing the whole LCD assembly, which does come with the inverter.
