Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Open Question

Wireless fiasco Sorry to say that the repair is not free - after speaking with the service rep, a supervisor and manager, it is costing me about $300 - that's after negotiating down from a higher quote of $450. My warranty period is over, but I really resent having had no real notification of this problem, so that I could have taken care of it prior to having no internet for months, working with an HP online tech support person for 3 HOURS, and trying every fix under the sun, including full system recovery, all to no avail - they never once referred to this KNOWN situation. On top of spending almost en entire day working on this, I will have to go through the hours of updating system, re-installing Norton, Office, etc. etc. I have 2 other HP laptops, so am not a new HP customer, but after this, it's MAC for me.

So, is this a motherboard problem and not just a replaceable wireless card? What about using a PCMCIA wireless adaptor?

When I power up the roadmate 300 says there are not maps....the drive shows that they are there ? when I connected to computer with disk asked for authorization code.....would not let me enter one...called...

Unfortunately the authorization code comes from Magellan so there is no way for us as end users to bypass it. I would call back to Magellan and ask to speak to a supervisor or manager. Someone there has to be able to provide the authorization codes, tell them you have a very popular blog and plan to let everyone know just how horrible Magellan's customer service is unless they help you. It is ridiculous that they would be holding you hostage essentially like this. I wish I could provide you with the authorization codes but unfortunately it is tied to the unique identifier from your magellan unit, and the serial number of the map software, both things that Magellan can easily check, and then provide you with the code.

I would keep calling until someone gives it to you, that is simply not acceptable.

So sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but noone on here will be able to give you those codes, it is a manufacturer dependent thing.

Good luck, sometimes it just takes a little persistence, and like I said, make sure you are talking with at least a level one supervisor.

I have an HP PAvilion dv6000 that won't turn on. My brother was able to use it just fine couple of days ago then when we tried to use it just the other day, it won't turn on. I can see that it is charging...

The common failure on the DV6 line is the power flex cable goes bad. If you can power the unit on by pressing the Quickplay button on the keyboard cover (icon looks like a circular arrow), then your prob is resolved by a simple cable (that HP doesnt sell individually :/ ). If you still have no power to the unit, your next likely candidate for failure is the dc harness (percentage-wise unlikely, but part of the troubleshooting process), or the mlb (systemboard). 10bucks on the flex cable ;) -Sy

Have a Zenith 50" plasma model picture but have sound. of course my 1 yr warranty ran out last week.

Place a warranty service request anyway. Many times with something that fails that close to the warranty period, the company will still cover it. If you get no where with the initial rep, speak to a supervisor +/or manager. This is too close to the warranty end and you should be covered. Be nice but firm in your disappointment with the product and you may get warranty service.

Keep us posted.

Customer service

Everyone has their opinions. Been repairing for a long time and in all honesty, I don't think we ever had a call with your problem on your model. Perhaps was a molding issue with the housing and it was missed by the manufacture and passed through the assembly line un-noticed. Don't get me wrong, all maufactures have problems but the company in General is a good Company. Perhaps you should give them one more time and call again, speaking with soemone higher up the echelon. When a rep answers, kindly tell the you would like to speak with their supervisor. The people you speak with did not make your refrigerator and the problem is not theirs personally. With the right approach, I am positive your issue can be resolved. A final note...expect to pay money as the warranty is only 1 year and you are into the third year. Good Luck, Eric Campion

Well, reinstallation of the driver over and over again is certainly not an option. If this laptop has been to HP 10 times (omg) for service, this is way too much.

I used to work for an HP call centre. Call them once more. But this time, when you get a tech, explain the situation and history of this laptop and then ask to speak to a supervisor. And please, be calm, don't yell at the poor tech (he really does want to help) and when you speak to a supervisor, ask for a CASE MANAGER. Right when you demand to speak to a case manager, the supervisor is supposed to automatically escalate your issue to the highest authority, the case manager. The supervisor will tell you a case manager will call you in 24 to 48 hours. It may be on the third day, as sometimes they have been very busy if a major issue has occured that they are handling.

The case manager will call you and do everything he can to solve your issue to YOUR satisfaction. And since the laptop has been in repair 10 times (the unofficial HP rule is 3 times, then replace it!) speak with the case manager and get a replacement. You really should not only get a replacement for all the time and trouble you have had over this, but your replacement should be a newer model.

Hitachi customer service

That really shocks me. The majority of the posts that have contacted the customer relations department directly have not had a problem. There was one post where someone said that they had to ask for a VP and then the rep came back and said they would take care of it. There are dozens of posts on here where people have had success with Hitachi in getting a new light engine. I wonder if it would be worth while to call them back and ask to speak to someone else. Maybe a supervisor or someone. I would also let them know that several of us have had success in getting the problem corrected.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time. I would push forward and see if that works.

Hitachi 50V710 Yellow screen

I contacted Hitachi (800-448-2244) on 02-18-09 and spoke with customer service rep. name Joyce. I explained the yellow in the middle of the screen and told here a Tech came out and said that the problem was the light engine not the light unit. She immediately said that she would send a brand new Light Engine to the repair company that diagonsed the problem. She said I would have to pay for labor. The light engine is a $1000+ part and the repair company said labor would be $300 dollars. The key is you have to say that a tech looked at it and diagonsed it as the light engine and not the light unit. Find a repair company in your area and let the customer service rep. know that they looked at it about a month ago and you can't find the paperwork. The customer service rep will then recommend a company in your area to come and look at the TV. The tech company will probably charge a tech fee $100+ dollars, and about $300 for labor, all total $400 for parts and labor is not bad when the Light Engine itself is a $1000+ part. Hope this helps.
