Why can't I keep my new heater alight?

I connected new full gas bottle and lit as detailed [although I had to 'blow' the flame to get the med and high settings to light]. It stayed alight for about 5 minutes. It then started to burn less fiercely and gradually the ceramics lost their redness. I turned it back to low but the power/heat decreased until the flame went out. I was then unable to light it so left it for about 30 mins. The fire then lit again and I left it on low. It only burned for a few minutes before repeating the process and going out. I have checked there is no dust etc on the gas bottle (which there wasnt); have moved it to try in a warmer room; held the button down for several seconds before igniting but nothing is making it stay alight. I have tried lighting it several times over the last few hours and it seems to be getting worse, not better. Can you advise me what to do.

Sounds like the gas bottle may be defective. I would suggest you try another before proceeding.

I have a new DeLonghi Gas heater but once I've lit it, the flame just goes out. I've just bought another heater because the 3 year old one did exactly the same thing.

I'm sure that you read the directions and you are holding the button for a full minute.

1) Try blowing it out with a hair dryer. Dust does lots of weird things to gas heaters.

2) There is a thermocouple that opens when it is hot and makes the gas keep flowing. It is a small metal tube that sits directly in the flame. When it heats up, the gas flows. If that is shot, then it won't keep the gas flowing, so it will turn off when you let go of the button. Try tapping it lightly with the tip of a screwdriver to knock it loose. There is about a 10% chance that this might fix it temporarily until you can get a new one.

The heater will light then you let the knob go and the gas goes out even after leaving alight for several minutes. I have lubricated the gas controlled and there is full movement it is approximately 12...

Lea, the problem is not the gas control valve. It's the Thermocouple that needs replacing. When the Thermocouple fails, the pilot flame will not stay lit. The Thermocouple is a safety feature that stops the gas, if the pilot flame goes out for any reason. If you've never replaced it before, I'm surprised the original one has last for 10 years.

Hope this helped you solve the problem.

All of a sudden my patio heater will not stay lit.

Describe the pilot. Is it a strong blue flame or lazy yellow? Is the thermocouple getting red hot by the pilot flame? I'm wondering if the pilot is impinging enough on the thermocouple to keep it lit. It may be dirty, so try blowing out the pilot orifice with a can of compressed air and see if that helps. Also make sure the thermocouple tip is not burn't. If you feel the tip and it feels jagged, then replace it. Hope that helps. Douglas

Quattro Plus heater will not stay alight

Does this unit have a thermocoupling?

If so replace it. (6 bucks)
It is the units flame sensor and they routinely go bad.
When they no longer sense flame the unit will shut off gas to the ignitor/burner.
It will only stay lit when you are manualy holding the button.

Patio Heater pilot lights won't stay lit

crappy pilot flame (not properly heating the thermocouple), bad thermocouple, thermocouple loose where it screws into the pilot safety valve, bad safety valve magnet.

One or more of those is the problem.

Oh...there is also a saftey switch...in case it tips over. It will also cause the pilot to not stay lit (if the switch or wires that go to i are faulty)

Reddy heater rlp 100

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or the flame is not hitting the thermocouple. It may take 30 seconds of flame or longer to keep it on. Check for a loose connection at the gas valve.

Either a 30# or 110# tank of propane will work. You might even get by for a short period of time using a gas grill tank, depending upon how cold it is outside.
