Zanussi washing machine trips rcd on spin

Hi Ian.
I am assuming your RCD is fitted in your consumer unit (fuse-box)?
If so, then the chances of this being the cause is minimal. The RCD trips wen electricity is not balanced between live and neutral wires - which means some is leaking out to elsewhere - which it shouldn't because it is dangerous.
It would have helped if you had indicated how old your machine is, and how much use it has had but I am currently leaning towards the motor have several winding options that kick in (or not) depending on the spin speed. It would therefore be a motor fault, or something as simple as the brushes are disintegrating (which is often accompanied by hesitant and intermittent behaviour from the motor). These types of faults mean that some of the electricity may be leaking to the motor casing and then to earth.
I would recommend you call an engineer or if you have decent DIY skills, locate a replacement motor (ebay or the likes) and swap it out.
Good luck
David

I have had a new consumer unit fitted and the washing machine tripps the RCD during operation, not sure when because there is no indication where the machine is within its cycle.

Hi again,

You are more up-to-date with 17th and 2 RCD's than we are here in France- also knowledgeable!
It does appear to be a machine problem. What I would do is, going backwards from the final spin, try each cycle to give some indication where the problem lies. For instance there would be no water heating on spin of course BUT both of the motors, main and drain, would be working - the former at its hardest/fastest. If OK through spin, step back to rinse- again no water heating (normally). If that is OK then its pointing more towards the heater element than anything else as both of the motors would have been isolated by the earlier tests. I would not suspect the control board at this point. Obviously if the spin trips it could be either of the motors OR some dodgy wiring showing itself during lots of movement.
I would have the back off WITHOUT POWER(!) and check as much visually as possible.
Here's hoping!

Hello,
It would seem to me that the heating element needs replacing from the information you have supplied especially as it performs most of the other functions like filling and spin and drain.

My hotpoint ultima keeps triping the trip switch. it had f08 on the screen but now that has gone, but still trips electrics every time i press start.

Hi

f08 means heater relay cannot be actived so try unplugging heater element and see if it stops tripping the electrics.
