Question about Tomtom ONE GPS Receiver
I have had two Tomtom ones with this problem. It's caused, I think, by the monotonous regularity with which it falls off the windscreen and the first thing which hits the dashboard is the USB plug. This causes it to become unsoldered after a while. You can resolder the connector but it's a delicate job and if the PCB tracks have been broken you need to wire it in. The problem is that it will just happen again so I am thinking of putting a aluminium guard around the connector and then rivetting this to the case, so that this takes the shock and not the connector. It's a shame that Tomtom have used type of connector in this position as it spoils an otherwise excellent design.
You might consider using a USB cable with an angled connector. This way the stress will no longer be on the TT motherboard but more on the housing. You can find such cable on eBay.

I have gone around this problem by removing the internal battery, and soldering a female power connector to it.I now it on 3 aa batteries, alkaline cells givbe me an autonomy of about an hour, maybe duracells will give a bit more duration.
When i have time ,I will work on splicing the wires on the cigar plug adaptor and use that as a permanent power source. The wires for the Lipo cell are Red positive, solder this to the yellow wire( probably a battery gauge wire) and black ground.
Hope this helps
Very poor workmanship from TOMTOM
