Fuse keeps blowing out in my maytag washing machine

The fuse keeps blowing in my maytag top load washing machine model LAT8435AAE. It blew the first time from a power surge. I replaced the fuse and when I went to turn it on it blew right away. So I put another fuse in and it did the same thing. Can you tell me what keeps blowing out the fuse.

Re: fuse keeps blowing out in my maytag washing machine

The power surge probably shorted out something in the main wire harness or fried your motor. remove the screws from the control panel and look for any wires that are discolored, charred or disconnected. in the event you do't find it there trace the wiring thru the cabinet looking for the same thing. if you don't find that, replace the motor

I own a maytag atlantis top load washer model LAT4914AAE and the fuse located behind the knob controls blows when ever i go to wash a load

The reason the fuse keeps blowing is because one of the two switches their where the fuse is is bad and drawing to much amperage so the fuse blows. THe lid switch/fuse asm comes together and it should be replaced.

The part number for that switch assambly is 22001682 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;

One says the lid switchs are not working in tandem with each other. Another says the circuit board is bad. I say it is because it is a Maytag and built with an obsolete ethical plan for generating profit.

My washer continually blows a fuse

If your machine is the Maytag stacked washer/dryer combo, there are a couple of areas I would look at. The first is the lid switch assembly. The fuse is a safety device designed to blow if the lid switch malfunctions. The two lid switches interact and if they don't both switch at the same time it can blow the fuse.
The second thing to try is to wash a load on cold water only and see if the fuse blows. See if there is a water supply issue. Check the water inlet valve. Remove the water supply hoses and check the small screens in the water inlet valve. Make sure they are clean and clear of rust or debris. Use a mulitmeter or ohmmeter to check the solenoids for continuity. A lack of continuity would indicate a faulty solenoid and the water inlet valve assembly will need replaced. These are a couple of things to consider. Hope this helped and best wishes.

a short in a wire somewhere grounding causing fuse to blow

Washer was in fill cycle and stopped

You've got a short circuit somewhere in that electrical circuit.

First, unplug the washing machine.
Replace the fuse. If it doesn't blow immediately, then there is likely a short in the washing machine, and from what you describe, it's in the motor.
If it blows, then there is something wrong in that circuit, and you can likely rule out the washing machine. Check all devices on that particular circuit, of which there can be a number of plugs.
