I appologize about not being clear on the question. I am refering to the optional second tray that the printer sets on. When I add the second optional tray the printing preferneces do not show it and it is not an option under paper source. Is there a setting to make it reconigize the optional second tray?

If you are talking about the tray that opens just above the main tray these are the steps to take:

Open the print preferences screen. On the Basic tab, on the bottom part of the screen, you will see a section called Paper source, you will see a drop down menu called First Page. Choose the MP Tray. Make sure you open the door up to use that tray.

I apologize for the delay on your second question. The weekend was busier than normal. I was able to find out that your second tray is model LT-6000. Unfortunately Brother is not very forthcoming in providing information on that unit. Nowhere on their support website do they provide a copy of the user manual for the tray, or any FAQ or troubleshooting guides. From experience I know that often the addon trays for printers have some kind of a connection to the printer. That may be a cable, or contacts on the tray itself. Normally any problems with the tray is usually caused by a bad or dirty connector, or a small pin that engages a switch in the printer. Sometimes they also come with additional drivers for the tray. If so I would uninstall and then reinstall those drivers. If there is no cable or extra driver then you may have a defective tray. If you still have a warranty you should contact Brother for assistance, or have them send you a replacement. Unfortunately there isn't much more that I can offer you in the way of support.

IBM 1532 2nd tray is installed but the printer isn';t seeing it

First of all, let's establish exactly what doesn't see the second tray - the printer or the computer?

Go to the printer's display, enter the menu and find a configuration sheet print option (or something to that effect). All printers can output a summary page with all relevant information, like memory, settings and also paper trays. If the second tray is not mentioned on the configuration sheet, then there must be some problem with electrical connection between the printer and the tray.

If however the printer sees the tray, only the computer doesn't let you print/select it, you must open the control panel, printers, properties for your printer and find an option like "installable accessories", "optional components" or something similar, where you will find an option to enable the second tray, thus informing the printer driver that the printer is equipped with 2nd tray.

Good luck

I think that if you use the bottom tray to load the paper, you can use the different sizes of paper to print. Make sure to click the second button inside the lid that shows the direction the paper is fed into the printer. hope this helps!
