Try this, totally rethread with the presser foot up, then pull the top thread, it should move smoothly, then lower the presser foot, now pull the thread, it should barely move. This seats the thread in the tension discs.

I would call Singer because something is not in alignment if your have checked all of the suggestions that your manual gives. Without seeing it, I don't know how anyone can help because we cannot see what the needle is hitting, it is like working in a dark room. Singer's phone # 1-800-4singer, JoAnn Fabrics usually has nice people who are very helpful and I know that they sold this model at my JoAnn's because I bought one for Xmas for my granddaughter. They probably will spot the problem right away
