Question about Whirlpool Gold White-on-White 21.9 cu. ft. Conquest Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Ice and Water GD2SHAXLQ Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

The red light on the ice maker control has been on for some time now (a month or three). Not sure what this means, I have had the filter replaced. However, the water pipes in my house rattle and it seems to have something to do with the ice maker, as the sound emanates from there such as when I turn the kitchen faucet on and off. This occurs when the 2nd floor bathroom tub faucet shuts on and off also. Could something from the ice maker connection be causing this, as I'm concerned a pipe may rupture?

Hi there,

on it as to you ice it is on a separate valve as the water in the door so the water flow don't mean a lot in this case remove the front plastic cover on the icemaker and you will see a bunch of little holes make a jumper wire out #10 or 12 house wire strip about 1/4 inch off the ends an insert in the holes marked t&h this will start a test cycle make sure you hold the plastic insulation so you don't get bit if the ice maker starts cycling remove the wire and watch for it to stop listen for the icemaker valve to open if the ice maker finishes and the valve didn't fill replace the water valves if the icemaker doesn't cycle and you may have to kind of twist the jumper back and forth to get it to make contact depending on the gauge you used then replace the ice maker motor module if you hear the valve open and the ice maker doesnt fill check for a frozen ice fill tube that should do it

Good Luck!!

Thanks

How do I "Prime the Water Supply System" refereed to in use and care guide that came with my new Kenmore French Door Bottom Freezer, #253.70413411. Cannot find instructions in the manual only reference to...

Assuming you followed the water line installation directions and you have water available to your new refrigerator/freezer here is the rest of the "priming" info you requested. (basically it tells you how to run a bunch of water through the system by filling cups or glasses to remove any debris and/or air...

Automatic Ice & Water Dispenser
Priming the Water Supply System
1. Begin filling the tank by pressing and holding a drinking glass against the water dispenser paddle. 2. Keep the glass in this position until water comes out of the dispenser. It may take about 1½ minutes. 3. Continue dispensing water for about three minutes to flush the system and plumbing connections of any impurities (stopping to empty the glass as necessary).
Ice Maker Operation & Care After the refrigerator is installed properly and has cooled for several hours, the ice maker can produce ice within 24 hours. The ice maker will fill the ice bin from the rear. You must dispense some ice to force the ice forward in the bin. This will allow the bin to fill completely.
Turning the Fresh Food Ice Maker On and Off Ice production is controlled by the ice maker's On/Off icon on the control panel. Press and hold the "Ice Off" icon for three seconds to turn the ice maker "ON" or "OFF". The ice maker is turned off when the LED above the "Ice Off" icon is illuminated.
Using the Ice Maker after Installation Before making ice for the first time, be sure to prime the water supply system. Air in new plumbing lines can result in two or three empty ice maker cycles. Furthermore, if the system is not flushed, the first ice cubes may be discolored or have an odd flavor.
CAUTION
For proper dispenser operation, recommended water supply pressure should fall between 30 psi and 100 psi. Excessive pressure may cause water filter to malfunction.
NOTE The water dispenser has a built-in device that shuts off the water flow after three minutes of continuous use. To reset this shutoff device, simply release the dispenser paddle.
IMPORTANT On occasion, unusually small ice cubes may be noticed in the bucket or in dispensed ice. This could occur in normal operation of the ice maker. If you start seeing these more frequently, it may be an indication of low water pressure or the water filter needs to be replaced. As the water filter nears the end of its useful life and becomes clogged with particles, less water is delivered to the ice maker during each cycle. Remember, if it's been six months or longer since you last changed your water filter, replace the water filter with a new one. Poor quality household water may require the filter to be changed more frequently.
IMPORTANT Your ice maker is turned on at the factory so it can work as soon as you install your refrigerator. If you cannot connect a water supply, set the ice maker's On/Off icon to Off and turn off the water supply valve; otherwise, the ice maker's fill valve may make a loud chattering noise when it attempts to operate without water.
Hope this helps. Randy

SRS580DW Water filter indicator red light is on. Where in the fridge do I find it to take it out to replace pleace?

Resetting the water filter indicator light can also be found in the user manual for your SRS580DW Refrigerator User Manual page 8 The water filter indicator initially lights up green. Press the ICE TIMER and ICE MODE buttons at the same time for about three seconds to reset the water filter installation date. • The green light changes to orange after five months to indicate that you should soon change the water filter. It changes to red after an additional one month (six months after the water filter was changed or installed) to indicate that you must change the water filter. • If you wish to turn off the filter indicator lamp or the filter is not connected, press the ice timer & ice mode button simultaneously for 5 seconds. If you wish to turn on the filter indicator lamp again, press the ice timer & ice mode button simultaneously for 3 seconds. Side by side refrig - ice maker and water don't work after replacing the filters. is there a re-set?

Removing a water filter from the inside of your Frigidaire brand refrigerator:

Removing and replacing a water filter - upper right hand corner inside location

Filters situated up front in the refrigerator compartment of Frigidaire-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
  1. Open the door of the refrigerator compartment of your Frigidaire brand side-by-side refrigerator. The filter is located in the upper right hand corner. It has a push button for quick release just to the right of the filter.

  2. Locate the icemaker On/Off power switch and place it in the OFF (o) position.

  3. Push in on the filter release button and pull the filter all the way out to remove it. Remove new filter from its packaging and remove the protective plastic caps. Insert the new filter in the same manner it was removed. Make sure to push in firmly on the filter until you hear the filter cartridge click in place.

  4. Return the icemaker's power switch to the On (l) position.

  5. Condition the filter by running water through the dispenser for about three minutes. This will flush the filter of all fine carbon particles.

  6. In some models, you will have to reset the filter status light. It is located on the ice and water dispenser control panel. Push in on it for ten to fifteen seconds until the green, red, and amber lights flash. If your refrigerator model does not have a filter status light, you should make a note on a calendar, or place a month sticker on your filter to remind you to replace the filter again in six month's time.

Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator or shut off the water supply when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

Want to know when and how to replace water filter on a ge side by side refrig

Hello,

The water filter status light or indicator, present on some models, will help you know when to change your water filter. The light, or indicator, is located either on the temperature control panel in the refrigerator compartment or on the dispenser control panel on the freezer door.

The indicator will be one of two styles.

If the indicator is a light or series of lights, the light will change from green to yellow. This tells you that it is almost time to change the filter. It is recommended that you replace the filter when the status light changes to red or when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases.
If the indicator resembles a stack of bars, the bar height will decrease and the status display will change from "Good" to "Order." This tells you that it is almost time to change the filter. Replace the water filter cartridge when the water filter status display changes to "Replace" or when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases.
If a filter status light/indicator is not present, the filter should be changed at least once every 6 months. Your filter may need to be replaced more frequently depending on your usage and water quality.

If the water flow to the water dispenser or ice maker noticeably decreases before 6 months have passed, you may need to replace the water filter cartridge more often. Decreased water flow is a sign that the filter is clogged and needs to be replaced.

If the filter is clogged and you are not able to immediately replace it, remove the filter so the water system is in bypass mode. With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.

The filter status display will help you know when to change your
water filter. When the display reads 10%, order a new filter. It is
recommended that you replace the filter when the display reads 10% OR when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases.

The filter should be replaced at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage.

Step 2
Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.

Step 3
Pull the filter straight out.

Step 4

Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.

Step 5
Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and
turn the cap until it snaps into place.

Step 6
Remove the protective covers from the O-rings. Be sure the O-rings are still in place after the covers are removed.

Step 7
Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop back out when the filter is fully engaged.

Step 8
Flush the water system. Use a sturdy cup or glass. Depress and hold the
water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat this process until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue depressing and releasing the dispenser lever. Hold down for 5 seconds and then release for 5 seconds. Do this on/off process for about 2 minutes. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing

Hope this helpout in changing the water filter......

You have another plugged filter. That is why you ice cubes are hollow, the water is flowing so slowly into the ice maker, it does not fill up.

Recommend you install an external filter somewhere in the feeder line that connects to the rear of the refrigerator. The are surprisingly inexpensive, compared to the filter inside the new 'fridges. I recommend you buy a replacement external filter cartridge at the same time you buy the external filter kit. Of course you will need to change the internal filter one more time or bypass it per any instructions provided with your fridge.
