Question about Mastercool 67680 Evaporative Cooler Air Conditioner

1 Answer

I have a Mastercool II airconditioner, which is approximately 5 - 7 yrs old. Water has been overflowig from the unit. I believe the float probably needs to be replaced. I have no experience working with air conditioners and would like to fix the problem. If I purchase another float, what type of float do I need to purchase?; Is there anything else I need to check to see why the water is overflowing? Thank you for your help.

What you have is an evaporative cooler, it should be serviced every year, but most people can't afford that so they let it go or do it themselves. I don't know if you have ever worked on a toilet before , but your cooler has a float very similar to one in a toilet. More times than not you just need to adjust the float by bending the arm ever so slightly until the water shuts off on it's own. You don't want to bend it too far, it won't get enough water. If this doesn't do the trick you need to get an evaporative cooler float from your local hardware store, they can best tell you how to change it because you will have it visually in hand. Good luck

I have a MasterCool II MC63/64B and the thermostat has gone out. Since MasterCool is out of business, what model/brand would I replace it with.

If you are just running the evaporative cooler any single stage thermostat will suffice. You can buy them at OSH, Home Depot or Lowe's and probably Ace Hardware.

Master cool ll unit recycles its water but dumping it water to frequent.Dump water out the overflow useing to much water

In most cases you will need to just adjust the float (grab the metal shaft and bend it downward) this will lower the water level. If this doesnt do it, then you probably need to replace the entire float assembly. This is normally a n easy and cheap thing to do.

Mobile Mastercool MMB10B set up help needed

It has a float valve so when you connect it to the hose it stays full. The unit holds about 5 gallons but in a hot dry climate that can vanish in an hour or two. A lot of people use a 5 gallon bucket on top of the unit connected to the water inlet with a short hose. It will still need to be filled up but you can run it longer between fills and no hose to trip over.

I want to adjust the float on my mastercool, how do i reach the float.

Hi,

To adjust the float you have to try by bending the arm ever so slightly until the water shuts off on its own. You don't have to bend it too far, it won't get enough water. If this doesn't do the trick you need to get an evaporative cooler float from your local hardware store, they can best tell you how to change it because you will have it visually in hand.

When i run my rooftop unit, water runs down the outside of the roof jack and some leaks into the house

Could be that the float is not set properly to where the water shuts off when filled. Make sure that you adjust the float so that water doesn't spill outside the pan when the unit is turned off. But that enough water is available so that your pump has enough water to feed the pads. If you run the pump dry, you may overheat and ruin it.
Also, make sure the ducts are properly sealed so water doesn't leak into the house.

My mastercool blows out hot air upstairs

The one on top probably has no water in it or the pump is not working. Look closely at the front to ascertain if water is being pumped. If not turn electric off and remove one of the side panels with a 1/4 driver. In the reservior there should be water. If not you need to turn water on to unit or adjust/replace float. Also is it's warmer than 100 degrees outside you're unit might be fine...it has limitations.

Evaporative cooler not getting water from water line

The pump is probably gone. the way it works is a float allows the water level to stay the same in the reservoir so check that. Water is pumped up to the hoghair and trickles down into it. A big old blower pulls the wet outside air into the room. We call that one a swamp cooler down here on the gulf. Go outside and spray some water on the unit to cool down the house till you can get the pump replaced.

Whirlpool Side by Side- semi-translucent tape likedebris in water

Sounds like the plastic from the icemaker is chipping off the unit in the ice making process.

If your water is running clear except through the refrigerator that is my suggestions. Although normally the plastic color is blackish.

Summer

If it was not drained for winter, do so and then remove all scale from the pan, pump inlet screen, etc. Replace the pads if they are scaled up and remove any scale from the louvered panels. WITH THE POWER OFF, check the belt for cracking and check to drive motor and blower wheel bearings for smooth operation, oil bearings with oil ports. With clean water in the sump, a good drive belt, clean pump screen and clean pads, the unit is ready to power up and run test the float action/shut-off, water distribution through the arms, belt tension (just enough to prevent slipping). These units work best when they can fully evaporate the water, so let the air flow out as fast as it come into the cooled space to maximize the evaporative effect. Also note, these unit must be level to work properly.
