Question about Air Tools & Compressors

1 Answer

I am trying to locate an owners manual for a sears compressor

I have a sears 1.5 hp compressor model # 106/153981. On the sears site they refer to it as an air compressor paint sprayer - but it is an air compressor. The sears site show a part list, but they do not offer the manual. The unit dates to about 1965.

The unit can be pwered by either 110v or 220v. I would like to re-wire the unit to use 220v, however in looking at the unit I am not clear on how to do it.

Thanks for your help. The motor did have the wiring pattern on the motor plate cover. My problem was that each time the compressor cycled it would cause my breaker to trip upon restart. I thought if I moved it to 220 I might get enough torque to overcome the problem. as it turns out during my inspection of the wiring and limit switch I found the wires to be old brittle and loose at the connections. I cut the wire back, reset the connects and the unit runs great on 110. Thanks again for your help.

I can help you. The motor name plate will give you the connections for the different voltage if it is a 'dual voltage' motor. Check the name plate on the motor.
May I ask why you want to change it. Contrary to popular belief, It won't make it cheaper to run.

How much should I thin paint for pneumatc sprayer?

you did not mention what paint, you did not mention what sprayer.

remember, if you use solvent - opacity of the paint is sacrified, tints are less visible, metallic require more clear coverage.

for water based paints - except airbrush, usually no thinning is required, but you need to first stir it well (at least 3min on manual or 1min 30sec if mechanical stirer is used) strain it, i am using old stockings for that purpose in single layer, works very well for me and if nozzle is above 1.4mm up to 2.8mm there is no problem whatsoever. if this is splatter paint (nozzle 4.5mm or greater) do not even think about thinning it...

for acrylic - if nozzle is between 0.8mm and 2.8mm, procedure as above and you need to add specific thinner, usually up to 20% albeit in some cases up to 40% per volume) so paint will be about like ight cooking oil - water.

for oil paints and enamels - solvent should be not more than 20%, albeit you can increase it up to 40% in rare circumstances, if you are using hvlp gun, you can, if you yousing hp gun - no! it will disperse too much.

for two packs and urethanes - not more than 20% better keep between 5% and 10%

for latex - in rare circumstances you are allowed to use very, VERY specific solvent, and ususally not more than 10%, nozzle usually is 8mm or greater in these paints.

Operating manual for campbell hausfeed paint sprayer # DH -3000

I found manuals/parts lists for your model sprayer at www.chpower.com, a Champbell-Hausfeld website. Under the 'service & support' tab, select 'manuals/parts lists' and do a search on your model.

Owners manual

There are very few places that carry Craftsman parts and manuals other than www.searspartsdirect.com. Unfortunately your manual is no longer available through them and the only reference to the manual (part number SI-30-14-5-A) on a web search is to the Sears website. Most of the parts for your compressor are available on that website. If you have a specific question you can post it here and I'll try to answer it.

I purchased a used Craftsman 2 HP 20 Gal air compressor, model # 919.176220. I'm looking for a copy of the user manual, Sears # SI-30-14-4-C. This item is no longer available from Sears.com and doesn't...

Since the exact model number manual is not available go to Sears and look at the compressors they have on the floor (or in the catalog). Find one that looks like the one you have and note the model number (these devices haven't changed much over the years). order the manual for the one that matches your machine the best.

Sears/Craftsman air comp./paint sprayer mod# 106.154881 3 hp 30 gal. starts fine - pressure builds to 20# then motor boggs down then restarts over and over.

Hi,
Your wire to the motor is too light a gauge wire or you are using too small of a gauge electric cord on it.
For a three HP motor you will need to use at least a 10 gauge wire or cord on a thirty amp. circuit...
