Batteries are still evolving and have not been perfected yet. Some batteries still develop 'memory'. This can be 'cured' by discharging battery completely to dead. Then recharge fully. Do this at least two times.

New 18v Makita battery flashes red on first charge in normal weather conditions. It was a display model at the store so would this be a junk battery?

Yes. The battery is junk. Hundreds of people have picked up that demo and pulled the trigger over and over until the charge was totally depleted. After sitting on the shelf totally dead for so long, it won't take a charge anymore.

You can get aftermarket 18V rechargeable batteries that may interchange with your Coleman battery and may even use the same 18V charger

Can you use 18v lithium battery in old 18v drill

Yes you can. On tools, 18 volts is 18 volts. Tools don't 'know' how the power is being created, either by Ni-Cad or Li-Ion means. Chargers are totally different. Most Li-Ion chargers can charge older Ni-Cad and some Ni-MH batteries but older Ni-Cad chargers will charge Li-Ion battery untill they overheat and sometimes start on fire because older chargers can't detect when the Li-Ion batteries are full.

Coleman 18v drill CTP 8129 number 9408 label underside drill. Probably 30 hours total usage over 2 years. Appeared not to hold charge after 18 months - had to recharge before every use on a 1 week...

These batteries never last very long. That model of drill is no longer made but I did find some refurbished batteries on EBAY. However, with EBAY you get what you get. Personally, I would never buy a refurbished battery and besides, they are way overpriced for a refurb. Sorry my friend but you would be better off just buying a name brand drill with Ni-cAD batteries (18V or 24V are the most common). I have a 24V DeWalt that I love and replacement batteries are cheap.

My JCB 18V cordless drill is not working when you press the trigger. The battery is fully charged any ideas please.

It's probably the switch; mine judders and works kind of. Slight burning smell coming from it, dismantled it to discover that the switch has started to burn out, so far no luck finding a replacement.........

JCB are totally useless, no help from their support phone number!

Even though it is only 6 months old, the battery could be faulty here as it seems it is not holding any charge.
