Question about Palm Treo 680 Smartphone

1 Answer

LCD/digitizer replacement My wife dropped her phone and the digitizer was cracked. The phone would still work as a phone if i called her but she could not see anything on the screen. I lit up but it looked like a crack with ink spots on the screen. I bought and replaced the LCD/digitizer touch screen. After replacing, the phone comes on and everything is seams to be working properly except the touch screen features. I've done a hard and soft reset but that did not correct the problem. Any suggestions? Please help!

Re: LCD/digitizer replacement

Unfortunately, when it comes to touch-screens, it's much more difficult to fix.

The reason being that the screen is placed in the chassis of the device - with precision, so that none of the parts in the device or the chassis/cover of the device itself is applying any pressure to any point on the screen.

If there is any point on the screen which is being pressed by the cover of the phone or any part of the phone such as a wire or PC board, the screen will be reading TWO inputs whenever you push a button on the screen. Most touch screens will lock up if it detects two points of pressure...or it will pick one input and run with THAT one. (Hard to say if it chooses the first or the second input.)

I have a Dell handheld PDA that I can't put the cover back on as it works sporadically when I tighten the screws back down. I know the general region where the pressure is being applied, but no matter what I have done, it just won't work. (It's not worth my time, so I haven't really continued working on it for some time now.)

Sometimes when I flex or bend the chassis of the PDA and I use the stylus on the screen, it'll work for a while. But then you grip it in a certain way and it starts going crazy all over again. When I bend the chassis by twisting it a bit, it releives the point of pressure and I'm able to use it normally for a while. Sometimes I tap the sides of the device to knock the screen back into place. (Although that can be harsh on the device.)

Quite honestly? I would take that phone to a service center and either have them service it or replace it. (But you most likely voided any warranty you still had when you opened it; if any.)

Not much that can be said for it unless we could actually physically inspect it. But this is the internet. :P

Try jarring the screen or inspecting the bottom side of the front cover to see if there is any point that is touching the screen when you secure it. Try removing the screws in certain, contained areas in a slow manner to see if releiving pressure in those areas might show you where there may be something touching the screen. Take it from there. Might consider using a file to file down the area that is touching the screen.

First and foremost, though... Just check to see if the screen is centered right where it's supposed to be.

Good luck with that. I hate touch screen repairs. :P

If I dropped my phone, and messed up the screen,

The LCD is cracked and needs to be replaced. A warranty is not going to cover it because it's clearly impact damage (though you can try). The LCD is hard to find and quite expensive.

Screan gone black, but the phone works

Your LCD screen is broken. If you have insurance on the phone, you can have the phone replaced. If not, you have voided the warranty by breaking the screen.

You can find a replacement screen at:

Instructions for taking apart the Viewty are:

IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE TAKING APART YOUR PHONE...DONT! Take it to someone that is. Remember, if you have insurance on your phone, they will not replace it if it has a cracked screen, they will replace it if it is lost.

If I have helped you, please give me a good rating. It allows me to help others. Thank You.

Screen turned white

Remove the back cover, Remove the battery, if the phone is GSM take the little card out of the back of phone by sliding the metal cover in proper direction. Should be arrows. Put the Sim card back in battery back in then turn phone on. If this doesn't work let me know. Main thing is reseating the sim card. (this assuming you a service provider that requires a sim card. )

Cracked touchscreen

There is no need to replace the whloe lcdscreen, you just need to replace the touch screen & panel which is a thin glasstop on the top of the lcdscreen. The whole lcdscreen is expensive, while a touch panel is much cheaper than that. And we could provide all kinds of PDA accessories. Here are some information for you In general, PDA LCD screen comprises the touch screen. LCD screen acts as a display of PDA or SmartPhone, and the likes, which cannot go without LCD screen. Touch screen is short for touch screen digitizer which seizes the upper part of PDA LCD screen. It is pressure-tactile, runs with gentle touch of stylus, finger and other tele-pointing function-possessed device. Different from LCD screen, the touch screen is an optional component for PDA, SmartPhone, and the likes. A PDA can function well even without the assembling of a touch screen for the availability of keyboard.
