Question about HandHeld Entertainment Audio Players & Recorders

Cordless mic not working

We have an older cordless radio shack mic and we can hear it come on thru the pa head, but not when we talk into it. Do you know anything we may can check on it? Don't have the means to buy a new one, and hate it because it appears to be in really good shape, receiver and all. Have replaced batteries, and tried all 8 channels on the receiver. We used it regularly about 5 years ago so I know it was fine, and stored properly.
Thank you for your help.Tonya Everett

How old is it? The problem with older electronic products is that capacitors suffer what is commonly called "ESR failure." ESR stands for equivalent series resistance. Basically, they simply dry out over time, or leak. New capacitors usually are very INexpensive (a few cents apiece), but most people know next to nothing about them, nor how to troubleshoot them in-circuit. On the other hand, some of us do know how, but labor is expensive. The best solution, is to simply replace ALL the capacitors in such units, which will usually cost less than $5.00 for the whole lot, and either replace them yourself, or have a friend or hobbyist replace them for you. But soldering technique is important! Soldering is not for beginners, nor for wimps!

SOURCE: I have a Radio Shack

Yes, it can be repaired: the wires must be resoldered and the plastic base patched together with a hot glue gun. But it will be fragile from now on - the repaired base will not hold too much mechanical shocks. All it will cost is the labor, about 2 hours - no parts are available for it.

Can I buy a cordless microphone for the 5' bony tony skeleton, item # 70467?

Wireless microphone would require a large rework of the item. It can be done with a wireless system from Radio Shack. Other wireless microphones are quite expensive.

Can you see the s-mete if it has one moving up and down on any channel? Do you hear any audio at all? could be a couple of things. Bad mic switch or mic cable, bad antenna or coax, bad audio amp. To check the audio amp plug in a speaker to the PA jack, put the PA switch on PA then press the mic to talk. If it works the audio is fine the mic is good and the mic cable is good. Noiw plug the speaker into the speaker jack, do you hear anything? If not then your antenna or coax has a problem, fix or replace antenna or coax.

Microphone problem

I might be wrong, but a wiring problem sounds like the culprit here.

Where the mic connects to the PCB, inside the radio, something has come adrift, the fact that your keying is getting through means something is loose, open it up and have a good look at the connections, if you find the culprit, fix it with solder, but be very sparing and careful, you don' t want solder all over the area, else you'l stuff up the mic input completely.

I hope I'm right, and I hope this helps you fix it.

I only use the pa doesn't always work.mic prob?when i switch to cb-no prob.

What type of PA speaker are you using? what OHM? and wattage.. A cb pa can only supply MAX 5watts into a pa speaker. It may be too big of speaker or bad speaker? if it works on cb.. wrong OHMS can make problems too..

TURN DOWN THE VOLUME ! ! ! You are getting feedback thru the mic because the speaker is too close to the mic.

I have a hannspree comp monitor and an emachines media center CPU. My sound comes thru my comp screen speakers. I am trying to configure a radio shack multimedia headset so i can game and also use it...

I solved the issue last nite w/online chat w/rulds2008.

Had to unplug the regular headset from the comp, then use the very pink plug on the Radio Shack Multi Media Headset and plug that into there.

Then the other odd sorta pinkish/fushia colored plug goes into the mic spot.

I don't have the answer but have the same problem. Uniden tech support had me disconnect power, etc. to no avail. Next solution was "replace the unit". I'm looking for a two-line phone with no answering device - use voice mail. Any ideas?

Phone works fine except the person on the other end can not hear your voice. Phone is a Uniden DCT 646 series cordless phone with one addional handset. The additional set is working fine.

There is an inexpensive built in mic where you speak into the handset. Ifit is not clogged with any debris, the mic needs to be removed with a soldering iron and replaced with a like one from Radio Shack.

Mic stopped working

Could be loose connection where the two wires connect to the circuit board. The mic looks like a small silver canister with two wires leading from it. Resolder if you are handy with electronics. Oherwise replace with a like mic from Radio Shack. Take the old one with you.
