Question about Uniden DCT646-2 Cordless Phone

Phone continues to display "welcome please wait..." I can't turn it off and I get no dial tone.

I have found this is cause by one of two problems: 1) the transfer button has been hit and it is waiting for anther unit to pick up. 2) (and most likely the problem) the battery is low on charge.
with case number 2 if your battery is at the end of it's life it will only keep a charge for a short time. it might even say it has a full charge but it does not. I have tested this out by switching the battery and then finding that the handset works fine. I hope this helps you.

I have 2 problems. 1. The orange message light will not stop flashing no matter what I do. 2. Some how the system was switched from touch tone to dial tone. I can't seem to that switched either.


Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company's
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
1. Press MENU/SELECT.
2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Call forward will not turn off, have tried *74 & *73 , have rebooted and turned off then on, call divert symbol still on and phone calls still diverted.


To set Unconditional Call Forward ON Dial "*72" for a dial tone. Dial the forwarding number followed by "#". Wait for dial tone. LCD will display "Call FWD Activated"
To Cancel Unconditional Call Forward: dial "*73" and get the dial tone, then hang up. LCD will display "Call FWD Activated

but, since you have tried those two, it could be that there might still be a different type of call forward option that is still ON, on your phone like Busy Call Forward and Delayed Call Forward 1. To Cancel Busy Call Forward: dial "*91". Wait for dial tone. Hang up.
2.To Cancel Delayed Call Forward: Dial "*93" for a dial tone, then hang up.

Both phones have no dial tone and don't work - could it be because they don't support digital?

The cordless phones supports pulse dialing than tone now a days.
If your provider supports pulse dialing & tone you can just change the tone to pulse to use cordless phone. Otherwise you have to request for pulse dialing from your provider.

No Dial Tone


You need to check your modem setting under control panel, there is a "wait for dialtone" option that you need to untick. Please let me know if this fixes the problem.

I get a dial tone / cannot dial out


put the phone to your ear and press any digit---you should hear a short burst of tone--if not you may be analogue pulsing which takes forever wait wait wait or change your phone to send tones instead.do this or check this in the menu for whatever kind of phone you are using....i hope this helps
