This is possibly one of 2 problems, either:

1: you have a faulty disc

or...

2: you have a faulty disk drive (dvd)

take the disc back and ask for an exchange, if that doesnt solve the problem, then you will need to purchase a new dvd disk drive.

Xbox 360 will only read dvds shows reading dvd

This means the DVD key went bad. If you flashed your firmware or have a jtag, this is an easy fix, but otherwise I would check craigslist or call Microsoft

DVD

If your Xbox 360 will not play your games this is because of the sensors on the back of the drive overheating it is not normally the laser.

Luckily you can fix this yourself and get back to your games and to do this you need the proven Xbox 360 Repair guide.

Or you can send it in and they will fix it for you the repair will take about 4 weeks.

The DVD issue normally happens as you will find that it can still read DVD's!

You will need to stop the heat to read games.

I put in 360 game into 360 console, message pops up to insert game into a xbox 360 console...that is what I'm putting it in!!!!

Hi,

try putting a DVD movie, or A music CD in.
this will eliminate a faulty DVD Drive, or laser fault.

360 reads one game as a dvd

this problem occurs in certain games, keep inserting the game or take back to the rental company, as it has an error on the disc, especially if you know that other discs are read alright by the 360.
