Cartridge installed but says cartridge missing

Sorry to hear about your Printer problems.
Just like everything else, you get what you pay for. !
Sometimes more, sometimes less, !!!

If you are having trouble with the printer not seeing the cartridge, it will be for mostly 1- reason.... Not making connection....

Connection point are in 2- Places... 1- Cartridge Base on Printer... 2- Base of Cartridge.....

Note.... Some cartridges, like HP for example.. have a copper foil or circuit tape which is easily damaged when sitting outside printer or box.
If it was me, I would.......
1. Remove cartridge from printer
2. Place cartridge in a plastic bag and seal the bag..
3. Clean bottom base where cartridge sits, using Q-tips and worm water...
Note.. We are not washing the area, we are trying to remove any clogged points of entry.
4. If the cartridge is New or yon can hear liquid inside when shaking,
Check and make sure the plastic safety tape is completely removed.
Turn cartridge over and look for a Silver Strip.. This is where the ink transfers to, before hitting the paper.
5. With a Damp tissue or cloth, wipe gently across the sliver strip.
6. Now, Hold the cartridge with the strip downward for a few seconds, squeezing the side gently.
7. Flip cartridge over and wipe again with Dampened Tissue or Light Cloth.
Note... If after wiping the silver strip with dampened cloth or tissue you see vertical colored strips appear, its working....
8. If you hear liquid inside the cartridge and after applying worm water to prescribed areas, you still see NO INK, replace cartridge or bring to Walgreens for refill.
Note.... Walgreens will check cartridge completely and if it fails mechanically and or electronically they will let you know.
Also, they will refill most Black cartridges for just over $10.00 USD and $13.00 or so for Color.
I have found this to work for me in many printer applications...
A, Check cartridges for Safety Tape
B, Check cartridge for damages
C. Check printer base for clean thru put.
D. Check cartridge for ink flow.

Insure printer & computer are turned on & connected, remove the printer cartridge, the computer should confirm print cartridge door open & cartridge removed. Put the cartridge back in & close the print cartridge door comp should confirm these actions too. Setup is complete you printer program should tell you that it estimates a full cartridge is installed

INkCartrige error 50c. Will not print. Display this note each time I try to make copy or print from computer.


Hi there

You should always mention the printer model as well as what operating system you use.

This is what i found on LEXMARK's website about your error, and it seems you have one or 2 faulty cartridges, or you are using compatible cartridges instead of Lexmark Originals:

Problem Error messages; Error: "Cartridge Error 50C"; Cartridge error; Black cartridge missing; Color cartridge missing Solution Cartridge Error 50C
Your print cartridge has shorted.

  1. Power off your All-in-One and unplug it.

  2. Plug in your All-in-One again and turn it on.

  3. Uninstall and then reinstall your cartridges.

  4. If this does not resolve the issue, try the troubleshooting steps for the other cartridge errors below.

Error: Black Cartridge Missing
The black cartridge is not installed. (Install cartridge PN 82)
Error: Color Cartridge Missing
The color cartridge is not installed (Install cartridge PN 83)
Cartridge Error
Complete the following instructions:

  1. Power off your All-in-One.

  2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.

  3. Turn the All-in-One on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.

  4. Remove the color print cartridge.

  5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.

  6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
    If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.

  7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.

  8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.

  9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.

  10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.

  11. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.

  12. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges.

Your print cartridge has shorted.

I am missing a ink cartridge and my hp photosmart C4580 wont let me use my scanner


This is because printer and scanner are connected together.The printer need both cartridges installed to initialized and then initialized the scanner.Just put the missing cartridge and problem will solve.
