Question about Whirlpool LEW0050P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Greeting From Alaska. I have a dryer Model # LEW0050PQ S/N# CAR4502402 that will not heat. The first indication that there was a problem was that the dryer would not shut off when you open the door. It keeps spinning and you have to press the power button off to get it to stop spinning. Shortly after that it stopped heating up. All lint traps and the exhaust vents are clean and air is flowing freely. Thanks for any help you can give me. We have no Dryer Tech's in my small town of Seward but can get assistance in installing/replacing parts as needed. Thanks!

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I really appreciate it. I have tried all the heat settings before I posted this request. No luck. None of them work. Yes sounds like the door switch is having problems. I did clean the vent tube all the way into the dryer - it is a very short distance and easy to clean. There are no restrictions and a good volume of air is coming out. I was wondering, since the dryer does not turn off when the door is opened maybe that might have caused it to over heat since it did not get the stop signal. So what would be my next best step. To order these parts? Any way to fine tune the problem a bit so I do not have to order more than I need? Or would it be better to just unhook the dryer and drive it to Anchorage? Thanks again.

Sounds like the door switch is not working either... Thermostat controls heat. There is also a motor centrifulgal switch, in the element circuit, that the motor closes to insure the motor is turning. Try another heat setting. There is more than one thermostat. You may have blown the 'thermal fuse' too, which requires replacement. The elecment has a contact in the 'timer'circuit too. It is possible that your element has failed also. Tripped high limit. Must clean the lint filter and the exhaust vent tube and all the way in to the dryer. Hot air exit is restricted.

Either your element is bad, also you could have the neutral wire on the element burned off which will leave you with 240volts across element, you do need the neutral to make elements heat also ckk for 120/240 volts at dryer

Dryer not powering on

The second frying of the switch indicates a major problem somewhere. Start at the receptacle and work your way back to the inside of the dryer and see that everything is tight. I think you will find that the problem lies at where the wire ends at the block inside of the back of the dryer. This might be ugly. Dryers conduct a lot of heat and electricity and can be safe if wired properly. Your breaker may need to be reset. Turn it off and then back on to get it to start up.

Re: LEW0050PQ The dryer does not power up. Is it a switch problem?

How new is the dryer? Is the door latching? Check the main electrical breaker for the dryer.

How to install a belt on a Whirlpool dryer model LEW0050PQ?

The tech I paid to replace the belt opened the case from the top and the back, and pulled the drum back away from the front, keeping the drum attached to the back panel. This exposed the motor and the broken belt, which had been cut by the motor drive wheel, probably because the drum was too heavy. Don't you just love renters?
