  • benallport10 Jul 14, 2009

    thanks very much works fantastically.

Dont suppose you would know how to do it for a home hub v3 as main router and v1.5 as a repeater? my parents have just signed up to BT in a tall house and I have a spare home hub.

    Regards
    Ben

Well it may be possible, only if your wireless router supports WDS. Also, note that in DG834Gv3 , v4, v5 supports WDS. If you have v2 or v1 then it wont connet wirelss with your existing network.

Please reply if your existing wireless router has WDS and the version of the NETGEAR router so that I will provide you with the required steps to make it work wireless.

Well, if you have v3 routers then it does support WDS for sure.

    For this

    1. Connect a computer to the router using any one of the 4 available ports.
    2. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
    3. Access the router (usually http://192.168.0.1).
    4. Login to the router with the User Name as "admin" and Password as "password" (please note that the username and password is case sensitive).
    5. Click on Advanced Wireless settings in the left hand side menu.
    6. Check the option for Enable Wireless Bridging and Repeating
    7. Select the option for Repeater with Wireless Client Association and enter the MAC address of the Router 2 in the Remote MAC Address 1 box.
    8. Click Apply.

Perform the same task on the router 2 and in step 7 enter the MAC address of the router 1.

Make sure to have the same wireless settings on both the router including the SSID, Channel and security( use WEP).

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

I would have loved to help you for Home hub configuration. But I am not aware regarding the settings for those. The only thing you need to make sure is that both the routers should support WDS configuration. You just need to have same wireless settings on both the routers and copy the mac address of the routers on each other under appropriate boxes.

    Hope this helps.

Hi all I have a Thomson Router ST585v6sl. I can connect to internet via cable but not wireless. Wireless light when you turn router on is red then goes out. I can't find an option in the routers...

i have one try using an ethernet cable and put in on internet explorer

192.168.1.254 That should be the speedtouch routers page
don't click the tabs on the right scroll down and find home networks there should be two options wireless and ethernet along with all the connections click wireless (if you cant click it click the home network tab then interfaces then click your router) then in the top right there should be something called configure now this is how it should be

Interface Enabled : Ticked
Network Name (Your Routers Name)
Interface Type: 802.11b/g
Channel Selection: Manual
Allow Multicast from broadband network: ticked
Broadcast Network name: Ticked
Allow New Devices: New Stations allowed automatically
Encryption : Use WPA-PSK Encryption
WPA-PSK Encryption Key: (Any Password thats memorable)
WPA-PSK Version: WPA

Apply if theres any changes (hopefully) try that if fails try one of these three steps:

1. go on 192.168.1.254 then click the speedtouch tab then click return to factory default settings to return it to the way you had it when you first got it. (WARNING: If you dont have your internet password you will have to call AOL for it)

2. Buy a HomePlug which is an ethernet cable that uses the electric wires in your house (example. http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DHP-307AV-PowerLine-Homeplug-Network/dp/B003L78F6U/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1298768566&sr=8-11)

3. Scrap the router and try a different one thats what i did well.. my speedtouch kept crashing and i couldnt hack it anymore now i have a new router and it was the best move i did.

Hope it works for you!

I have a RCA Thomson DHG 535-2 without the disk for the installation and the ethernet wont help everything is hooked up etherent/cable to tv power yes... and that's about ti all im really missing is the...

Thomson Cable modem has an ethernet connection...
The ethernet connection goes to your computer via a standard Cat5e patch cable. There is no USB that I know of...
Cablevision wire goes to the modem. It should be the first device on the cablevision wire. If you need a splitter, it needs to be a GOOD one, connected DIRECTLY to the incoming Cablevision wire as it enters the house. Use good copper wire.

Order of events:
Connect the cablevision wire to the Modem.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the computer and the modem.
Power on the cable modem.
Right click the network Icon near the clock and click 'repair' (Or reboot the computer)
Apply for and get an account for cable Internet from your Cable company.
After a few days, cable Internet should work.

EMule TCP Port 11522 not reachable

Does you norton program have a firewall included with the software? If so, your windows firewall was probably turned off automatically because having two firewalls running simultaniosly can cause a conflict between the two firewalls and therefore will not work correctly. If you have a firewall included with your norton software make sure it is turned on and leave your windows firewall off, other wise turn your windows firewall back on.

As far as your situation with the broadband modem, I have to ask: Is your Thomson hardware a broadband router (wireless/wired), or are you using an access point? (wireless/wired) If you are using a "router" there is no way to set it up to work with the modem the cable company provided you. However, if the Thomson modem hardware is an "access point" the only thing I can suggest is to follow these steps:

1) Pull the power cord out of the back of the modem that the cable company provided to you.

2) Next, plug in your Thomson router in to the ethernet port of the computer.

3) You are then going to configure that device. Start by going to the "network and Internet" section in your control panel. There should be a section in there where you can click that says "setup a new network connection" There should be an option to set up and "access point" and it will search for your hardware. If your hardware is found you will probablybe promped to input information about your router and once that's done it should set up successfully. If it isn't successful by some chance don't give up just yet! Go to step 4-

4) Shut down your computer.

5) next, switch the ethernet cable going from your Thomson hardware to the modem from the cable company.
6) You will then need a second ethernet cable to go from a second port of the Thompson hardware in to the ethernet port on your computer.

7) next, plug the power cord back in to the modem from the cable company and your Thompson hardware and start up your computer.

You should be able to get a wired internet connection if all goes well. If you have a wireless access point go ahead and set up a separate internet connection only this time choose "wireless" and choose your settings. I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have more questions. Happy Holidays!

Mtu Settings for the Thomson ST585v6sl

The MTU is the Maximum Transmission unit. Basically this tells the router how small to break the packets up, that it sends to your computer. When your computer downloads a internet page, it comes to it from the router in pieces. The size of the piece is the MTU. Changing it will NOT speed up your bandwidth from .5 to 3. Whatever bandwidth you get from your provider is what you have. The only thing that your router does, that can slow it down is the security key. If you have the wireless security on, then it has to verify each packet. If you need it leave it on, if not turn it off. If you turn it off, ensure you have other security measures in place.

How can i connect an additional pc to my rca dcm245 cable modem? i have an ethernet hub.

Hi there.
What you have to do is plug in the Ethernet hub, run the Ethernet cable (RJ45) from the modem to the "internet in" or "internet" socket on the hub, it will the one which is separated from the others.
Then connect an ethernet cable in port 1 to your first computer and a cable from port 2 to your second computer and so on.
If you experience connection problems just pull power from the modem for 30 seconds, plug it back in wait a minute and reconnect.
If you would need further assistance please post back.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Router and aol

Connect the Router to the modem using Ethernet wire and then connect the laptop with an ethernet cord also and run the set up cd. make sure you get the right cabling.

and if you wnat to go wireless , then after running the set up cd, and was successful to make the wired conenction worked, then you can unplug the laptop now from the router and check if able to detect signal form router. usually you will get the prompt on the lower right hand cormer of the laptop.

then if is able to detect the signal, then log -on to that network.

Thomson SpeedTouch 576 wireless modem router

Connect your wireless modem router Sign on to AOL. Download the AOL Easy Installer for Thomson 576 Wireless Modem Router. When prompted to save the file to a location select an appropriate place (desktop is a good example). Once the AOL Easy Installer is downloaded, double click the file: ST_V1.exe This will launch the modem router installer and show the "Welcome" screen. Click the Start Installation button to continue. If you wish to cancel, click the Cancel Installation button. Read the next page carefully. The text advises to close any running programs, ensure to close your AOL software also. Click Next to continue. Please Note: Connect a DSL filter to each telephone socket that is in use for telephones, dial-up modems and fax machines, etc. If you require additional DSL filters, order online at AOL Keyword Broadband Extras. Notes: Ensure to use AOL 8.0 or above. The AOL account to be used for the modem router set up must be a General (18+) account. This installer is not supported with a modem router containing beta firmware.
