Question about Mintek MDP-1815 Portable DVD Player

1 Answer

Mintek DVD Player

My daughter has one of those small DVD players. It has the lid the comes down on top of the DVD. When the DVD is in place and the lid is closed. The screen says that it is still open.

I've pushed on all the areas to make sure there is connections. I can see where there is a prong of sorts that is part of the lid. However, it is not broken or anything.

Can you make some suggestions?

When I open the dvd lid, and I put the dvd in and close it, the screen still says its open and it wont do anything until the dvd lid is closed. Even though I close it, the player still thinks its open.

There is a mechanical switch that is operated by the lid as it's closed. Sometimes, a DVD player such as yours can be made to work by pressing down on the lid but this is a sure indication that something is wrong with the switch. It isn't practical to hold the lid down for the entire time you're viewing a movie so repair or replacement is the only solution

My Mintek 1750 won't play dvd's when I install dvd and close lid the open icon at top left corner shows and it will not play

It sees the lid as being open. The lid has a projection from it that pushes a door switch when it is closed. Is this piece broken off ? or the switch is defective....

Sounds like something may be stuck inside the unit. If there is no warranty left, UNPLUG the device from the mains, undo the 2 or 4 screws on the sides of the unit, lift off the lid and just look to see if there is a foreign object inside or a DVD,(if at some point one of the kids put 2 Discs in and closed it, one of them could have got pushed over the top of the drive and got jammed), remove it and put the lid back on. Just make sure you don't touch or fiddle with any thing inside as not to damage it further.
Another possibility is that something is stuck to laser lens which you will only be able to see if you take the lid off.
DANGER WARNING do not take the lid off in the same room as the kids, or they WILL do it themselves, when you are not about.
