If you did not use a cartridge from Brother, your machine cant read the chip and thinks that there is no cartridge present

My brother MCF440 cn said that black ink was empty . so i changed it but machine says that black ink catrtridge is empty


  1. Open the ink cartridge cover. Pull the lock release lever down and take out the ink cartridge for the color shown on the LCD.

  1. Reinstall the ink cartridge and lift each lock release lever and push it until it clicks, and then close the ink cartridge cover.

  1. The LCD should then display:
    Did you change xxxxxx? Yes No.
    The LCD should display this question for the color(s) that was replaced.
    BE SURE to select Yes using the up or down arrow key or Dial Pad. If Yes is not selected for the replaced cartridges, INK EMPTY will appear again.
  1. After all the correct selections are made, the machine will then go into a cleaning cycle.

If the LCD displays "No Cartridge", there is a possibility that ink cartridges other than ones you replaced are empty. Follow steps below to check the ink volume. If there are empty ink cartridges, please replace them.

  1. Press Ink or Ink Management.
    * If your Brother machine does not have the Ink or Ink Management key on the control panel, please pressMenu. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Ink or Ink Management, and then press OK.

  2. Press the Up or Down arrow key to select Ink Volume.
    Press OK.
  3. The LCD shows the ink volume.
    Press the Up or Down arrow key to select the color (colour) you want to check.
  4. Press Stop/Exit.

If the message "No Cartridge" does not disappear, unplug the machine from the AC power outlet and wait approximately 10 seconds, and then plug it back in. If the date and time appear on the display, the issue is resolved.

Installed a new ink cartridge (black). When printing a page no ink appear on paper (black).


An ink cartridge may be incorrectly installed. Follow thesesteps to make sure the cartridges are correctly installed:
  1. Make sure the Epson Stylus NX400 is turned on.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If your printer indicates that an ink cartridge is expended, press OK.
    • If your printer does not indicate that any ink cartridge is expended, press SETUP, select MAINTENANCE, and press OK. Then select CHANGE INK CARTRIDGE and press OK.
  3. Open the scanner.
  4. Open the cartridge cover.
  5. Press down all the ink cartridges until they click into place.
    Note: If a cartridge is properly seated already, you may not hear a click.
    Caution: If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge, you cannot reinstall and use the cartridge.
  6. Close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place.
  7. Close the scanner.
  8. Press OK to begin charging the ink. This takes about 2 minutes.
    You'll see a message on the LCD screen when ink charging is finished.
    Caution: Never turn off the Epson Stylus while ink is charging or you'll waste ink.
    If you remove an ink cartridge for later use, protect the ink supply area from dirt and dust and store it in the same environment as the Epson Stylus with the label facing upward. Note that there is a valve in the ink supply port, making covers or plugs unnecessary, but care is needed to prevent the ink from staining items that the cartridge touches. Do not touch the ink cartridge ink supply port or surrounding area, and do not store the cartridge upside down.

I have a Brother MFC-620CN just changed the ink cartridges but the printer still says ink is empty and won't print

The printer does not recognize a new cartridge when I install it. Also, I think the old ink cartridge was still good.

Brother Printer - Keep complaining about No Ink


Hello.

From Brother support:

"The message #NO CARTRIDGE# may appear if one or more of the
cartridges are not properly installed or an ink cartridge is
defective,such as air bubbles, or empty. Verify all the cartridges are
installed correctly and they are not empty or defective by following
the steps listed below:

NOTE: Cartridges that have already been installed are no longer
vacuum-sealed; it is very important that the cartridge remains upright.
If the cartridge is removed and placed on its side, air may be
introduced into the ink supply tubes, requiring repeated cleaning
before print quality is restored.

a. Lift the top cover to the open position until it locks securely
into place.

b. Then, remove all ink cartridges by pulling the white plastic hook
toward you and pulling the cartridges up and out of the machine.

c. Because all the ink cartridges have been removed, the LCD will
prompt you to install each color cartridge.

d. Important!! Reinstall the ink cartridge(s) in the order of the LCD
is instructing you too. Press down FIRMLY on the top of the cartridge
until it is fully seated. Push the white plastic hook towards the
cartridge to verify it is fully latched over the top edge of the
cartridge.

e. Close the top cover. The LCD will ask you if you have changed the
cartridge to new. Press 1 for yes and 2 for no. Press 1 for yes for
each color. The LCD will alternately show CLEANING and PLEASE WAIT. When the Brother machine completes the cleaning cycle, the LCD returns to Standby mode.

Push the white plastic hook towards the cartridge to verify it is fully latched over the cartridge's top edge. Repeat STEPS 2 - 4 to verify each that of the color cartridges (magenta, cyan and yellow) is installed properly, then continue to STEP.

  6. Close the scanner cover. The unit should begin cleaning automatically.

Changing Cartridges


I inspected the users manual, there it writes:

The steps below to replace an ink cartridge: Caution: Leave the empty cartridge installed until you have obtained a replacement, or the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out. To ensure good results, use genuine Epson ink cartridges and do not refill them. Other products may cause damage to your CX6600 not covered by Epson’s warranty. 1. If an ink cartridge is empty: Look at the LCD screen to see which cartridge is empty, then press the x Color button. If an ink cartridge is low: Press the Setup button to enter Setup Mode, then press the green button next to the LCD screen until Replace Ink is displayed. Then press the x Color button. 2. Lift up the scanner 1314127a0e502194c0d970046a123efc.png 3.Wait for the ink cartridge holder to move over, then open its cover.
4. Identify the cartridge you need to replace. Press in the tab at the back of the cartridge, then lift it straight out. Dispose of it carefully.

5. Before unwrapping the new cartridge, shake it gently four or five times. Then remove it from its wrapper.
6. Insert the new cartridge into the holder. Press down firmly until it clicks into place.

Close the ink cartridge cover.

Lower the scanner.

The CX6600 begins charging the ink delivery system and “Charging . . .” appears on the LCD screen. Wait for charging to finish before using your CX6600.

Caution: Never turn off the printer while “Charging . . .” appears on the LCD screen, unless the CX6600 hasn’t moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
