its is in the open and completely free of dust its ina entertantment stand( cable box and vcr/dvr are on a sheleve above it. It will go on stay on for about a 1/2 hour then shut of sometimes its more sometimes its less. If you can think of anything else that i haven't tried other than a fan it might save me from buying a new tv

as i told the last expert i have an ilo hd tv that keeps powering off for no reason. we will be watching a show and poof off it goes. This started happening around two months ago the tv is about 5years old,the last expert said too put afan back near the vents or clean off the dust around the vents that was tried this past weekend and as of today(7/13/09) it is no better.Ive have tried new cables and new cable boxes and looked in the book for trouble shooting also completely dusted the whole tv entertanment center same problem. It doesn't seem to have any thing to do with heat cause its not on long enough to get hot enough to shut down. ANy IDEAS

    Thanks for info,
Can you please hook a dvd player and watch movie/ program on it to check TV goes to blank screen or some thing.
That will help to narrow down problem either TV has problem or its video source is giving trouble.
    Thanks.

    OK,
In my opinion power supply board need to be replaced.
Check Shop Jimmy for power supply board for your TV.
    Thanks.

ilo hd/lcd 2 seems incomplete model number, let me know exact model number that would be written on sticker pasted at back of TV.
I gave you shop jimmy weblink, click it and find exact model number in list, click that model number and you will get list of in-stock boards/ parts. If power supply is out of stock, call them on 952-881-6492 & 877-881-6492
Regarding replacement power supply board, unplug TV, take off back cover and follow AC in line that will take you to power supply board that nees to be replaced. Replacement is not difficult, unplug few connectors, unscrew old board, remove it and put new board, plug connectors and tight screws.

1/2 hour is plenty to get hot.
You are experiencing a poor solder joint (called a cold solder joint) on the power supply, or there are bulging caps on your power supply that once heated, will no longer take a charge.
There is no end-user fix that can solve this problem. it will require professional service.

Solid state (TV) repairs are never recommended by FixYa Experts as there are potentially LETHAL amounts of stored energy inside TVs that must be discharged properly before any repair is attempted.

Tracing your power supply board would be approximately $100 plus parts (depending on your location).

Please accept this answer to remove it from the work queue.

Thanks :D

Phil,
Is the TV in an enclosed cabinet or setting in the open on a TV stand?
Is there a heat source near the TV and are the vents on the rear of the TV clear of dust.
If the TV is in the open, try placing a room fan at the back of the unit and turn on high. You should be able to tell if it is a heat related problem. There are normally two power supplies in the TV that generate heat. It sounds as though you have a component or power supply that is sensitive to the heat generated due to age or fatigue of the component.
Good luck, let me know how the cooling experiment works.
Regards,

Ilo DVD player/recorder

> jfthr - Tv convertor boxes transfer digital signals into ANALOG. So when it goes to the dvd recorder it IS ANALOG. I have my antenna hooked to my convertor box, the converter hooked up to the ILO (A/V connections) then, the output on the ILO to the input of my analog tv. (Video selection on my tv). It works great to watch tv and/or record. I switch to the "DVD SOURCE" to watch dvds. Maybe you have the conv box hooked to the tv then the outs on the tv to the dvd. That would explain why you can get a picture but not watch dvd? The ILO has to go between the box and the tv in order to watch dvd.

Thin blue line

I am a Sharp Servicing Technician. You posted this before. Ive got the same model TV as you do LC46D62U. I think the line you are experiencing is simply the broadcast. I notice it on some HD shows that broadcast the side bars. (Always on the Ellen Degeneres Show). Ive taken some picture.

1) Here's the line on the left that i experience
ec62e20.jpg

2) Later on in the broadcast, it goes away.
f7a108d.jpg

One way to check if its a TV problem or not. When the line shows up again, hit the MENU button on the remote. If the line appears to be "behind" the menu, then it is simply the broadcast.
a6f48e8.jpg

If the line appears to be "on top" of the menu or shows right through the menu, then it is a TV problem.

Im thinking the reason it takes hours for hte line to appear is because it only shows up on certain shows or certain HD broadcasts.

Polaroid FLM1511 LCD TV

I have the same problem, but I have a remote. I have tried everything and nothing works. When I try to type in the factory set password under parent lock, which is all zeros, it immediately turns the television to channel zero! We didn't set this, it just started happening. The manual for this model LCD 2000, is worthless! I called the company and they too were worthless! The call goes to another company for some reason and they have the same manual that I do. Any help would be appreciated!

Nothing happening

It certainly sounds like something which would be repairable. It would also seem from what you have said that the unit is still under warranty and should be repaired for free by the manufacturer. Check with the place you purchased it or the manufacturer. Good luck.
