Your better off just getting a ezcleanfilter, then you can just keep cleaning instead of replacing.

Sometimes u wont be able to hook an intex pool pump to a sand filter, the pump has to big enough to pump through the sand and i think that intex pumps wont be strong enough. I may be wrong i would ask my some1 at my pool supply store. Tell them what kind u have and see if it is compatible to pump with a sand filter. But the last person that posted a solution is right, a sand filter system is very expensive but i found mine on eBay. Brand new. Alot of people think eBay is nothing but used stuff but its not, alot of stores sell stuff on there brand new. I saved aroind 350 dollars on my filter system. the whole system filter and pump varies on what size u need but for a 2500 gallon pool i dont think u would need a big one, probably around a 14 inch with a 1/2 horsepower, maybe smaller if they make them. It would prolly run u between 200-300 dollars for the complete system brand new for that smaller size and of course the bigger u go the more expensive and its according to what brand u get...i hope this helps and good luck! I tell u know that a sand filter will save u in the long run, u only have to replace the sand every 2-d years and i know when i had a cartridge filter system was cleaning them out everyday and replacing them every 3 or 4 days and it still didn't keep my pool clean like i wanted. And another advantage is if u ever get a bigger pool then u wont have to purchase a sand filter

SOURCE: Pump and skimmer instructions on how to

Direction of flow is FROM the skimmer to the pump and back to the jet. Its easy enough to determine which hose is the "jet" hose and which is the suction hose. Put both into the water, or in a bucket and turn on the pump, find the one that is shooting out water, that's the jet hose. On these systems, filter replacement and cleaning is annoyingly frequent if you want it to work even remotely efficient.

Sand in little window on intex sand filter

That is not too alarming, if you are getting sand in the pool under the return line, then you could have a broken lateral assembly in the filter.

My sand filter, which I just bought this summer, quit working. I turned it on, it ran for a few minutes, then quit and never came back on.

That is because it is not really a real industry rated pump/filter set up. I would not invest in same type. Spend a little extra and get a real industry rated system. You can call your local pool/spa supplier and they can hook you up with a relatively inexpensive Real pool pump & filter assembly. You will not regret it one bit! Make the move & upgrade away from that type of toy.

Wish to upgrade cartridge filter pump to sand filter pump. Pool size 15' X 48" / pump 1000 gph - 637R /Item no 56945 Which intex sand filter is the best one?

First, understand that sand doesn't filter as finely as cartridges, so "upgrade" may be the wrong word. Cartridges filter down to about 10 microns, sand filters to 25-30 microns. (i.e.the cartridge will catch particles up to 3X smaller than sand will.)

If you still want to change, get the biggest sand filter available that you can comfortably afford. For superior results look at above ground pump/filter packages built by Hayward or Pentair. Intex products are just built to margin and are not designed for long term usage.
